On Monday, I stepped up to the line at my trusty downtown Chipotle Mexican Grill just as the server was replenishing the sour cream. She had on one glove, but the operative hand was bare and she got a few dots of the creamy, white stuff on her palm.
Then, she LICKED it off.
I tried to play it cool and asked the server to wash her hands as she slipped on a glove covering the contamination. The transaction didn't happen, needless to say. After leaving the restaurant, I tweeted my outrage. Chipotle corporate folks responded lickety-split in two minutes via Twitter to say they would investigate.
They later told me privately on social media that they had viewed the entire incident (as well as my unfiltered reaction) on video.

"There is no rule that says you have to wash your hands after handling money, especially if you're not handling money with your bare hands," Gray said. "But, we always recommend to management that people wash their hands after handling money because money is dirty."

Look at the rank hypocrisy of Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurant upper-level management. They drop support of the Boy Scouts because the Boy Scouts will not allow gays to be part of the organization? What gives? The practices of the homosexuality outshine licking sour cream off of one's palm like the sun outshines a candle for filthy, disease-risk, reprehensible practice in this world. Chipotle, get the beam out of your own eye before ripping the mote out of the ignorant employee's eye.
And, boy, is that money DIRTY. It sure makes one support dirty things, doesn't it, Chipotle???
I always laugh at the health department and their requirement for gloves.
Nothing abou wearing a glove mean any more than washing your hands.
You can pick your nose ,handle money, and wipe your butt with the gloves on,what is to assure keeping the gloves clean?
There’s one nearby, but I’ve never been there; my fault, as I hear it’s good food. I’m having second thoughts now. I rarely eat out anymore, anyway.
Homo vs BSA supporters? That seals it. No Chipotle for me, Eagle Scout Class of 1963.
I was sitting at a table about to enjoy my meal, when suddenly they turned on the tv and BOTH Barry Obama and Bill Clinton were on screen.
The majority of people working public restaurants and the bog chains really have no sense of what proper cleanliness is - they think what they do is acceptable - it’s what they grew up with (or in most cases - without) - and see nothing wrong with it. Go to some of these authentic immigrate restaurants in Sterling, VA and see how they operate — kinda transports you back in time before there were standards, but yet people still go there - and then comes the food poisoning...most of the teens that work in the big chains see it as punishment - not a beginning to establish a foundation and work ethic...and the food they send out bears this...which is why I’ve stop eating out except for two family owned places that I know first hand and actually am there in the kitchen while they cook...the other places have all gone down hill in who they hire and the low quality of food they serve...it dangerous!
I think some of these idiots wearing gloves and handling money think the gloves are to keep their hands clean, not the food.
Personally, I called Chipotle onto the carpet for this fiasco with the Boy Scouts, calling it what it was, a chicken-dropping move, as when the support was promised, it was WIDELY known as to the Boy Scouts stand on letting homosexuals in to molest members. In the intervening time between the promise of support and the retraction of that support, nothing had changed.
There wasn’t a change in Chipotle’s standard, nor a change in the Boy Scouts. Withdrawing support at that point was a stunt, not ‘enforcing corporate policy.’ If the Boy Scouts had made a change in their policy, that’d be one thing. Or if Chipotle made a change in their policy - it’d be less understandable, but at least it’d be an excuse.
Instead, they pulled their support because the rump humpers decided to start harassing the company over ANY support to groups that would deny them young fresh victims. They saw the logo and went after Chipotle, and Chipotle caved.
Now, I’ve never expected Chipotle to be all full of conservative values - one glance at their menu with their ‘free range chickens’ and ‘free range pork’ kinda gives the clue that this isn’t a conservative bastion. But one thing that Chipotle has always instilled in the corporate culture - when you promise to do something, do it.
I suppose they pat themselves on the back for living up to the donation guidelines in excluding groups that disallow rump humpers membership, and here you have a conflict of policy vs promise. But the promise, up until now, has always meant more to the company.
Now I know Qdoba isn’t any better than Chipotle when it comes to polices related to rump humping, and honestly, not sure how these pro rump humping policies actually apply to providing good food (seems rather contrary to me, being how little feces are desired in food or on the hands of customers..) But at least they do not make promises of support and then pull the rug when someone sticks to their existing policy.
Joe, you’ve severely disappointed me. An honest company would have said ‘we will not provide any future support, but any existing promises of support will be honored.’
Most disgusting?? Someone spewing chunks a couple tables away.
Jesus is coming soon.
We must remember in the meantime that Jesus loves everyone including Gays and died for every sin ever committed, homosexuality included. When he comes, however, judgment will fall on those who have refused His Son and are, therefore, not under His blood.
I once ordered a steak cooked rare. When the waitress set the plate in front of me, the steak jumped off the plate and ran back into the kitchen......
This certain place had great hash brown potatoes, and I had eaten them many times. One day, I hit an area of sour cream, butter and pepper fried up in my order of hash browns.
They were recycling uneaten baked potatoes from bussed plates......
My first job out of college was with the health department. I don't even want to go there.
Which restaurant was “this certain place” so I can avoid it? This is a good reminder to check out the kitchen before you eat there.
mcdonalds - they dropped the stack of fry boxes on the floor and then tried to serve me with them - made em get new ones
My worst experience, not health related but certainly a safety issue. A Denny’s in Tampa, the one on E. Fowler Av down the road from the USF campus. The crappy service was bad enough, but then we found out that reason for the slow service was a small fire in the kitchen and NOBODY had the sense to evacuate the premises and contact the FD. I called their complaint line and they were outraged.
The most disgusting episode I have ever expierienced was at a pizza restaurant my friends and I went to one evening.
Once we were taken to our table we sat and talked among ourselves about the days events at work. While talking I happened to notice a baby cockroach walking beneath the glass covering the table top.
I didn’t think much about it until another guy mentioned that there were other roaches walking along the utensils.
It only got worse from there. We began seeing the little critters walking through the wine glasses .Unfortunately for us our meal had been preordered. So within minutes if our arrival the pizza pies came out on the trays.Upon closer examination I could see the baby roaches walking along the edge of the pizza.
That did it for me.I didn’t have to pay a dime for that pizza and it was the last time we ever went to that pizza shop.
As it was I would itch every time I thought about that place.
Got that beat. Was at a buffet. Got in line for the dessert section.Really nice desserts. Had my eye on them all night. Just reaching for one and a 9 year old kid in front of me pukes all over the whole dessert section.
My sister found a bandaid in her soup.....
