The judges are deadlocked about Jolly. So they have to bring in Jimmy Iovine to break the tie.
This is all spotaneous, of course /s
Iovine didn't care for Jolly's performance, claimed he oversang it like he was "auditioning for the Phantom of the Opera." But says Jolly can claim a silver stool.
That's three stools down. Two stools and four singers remain.

From everything I have read, the final finalists are selected WAY IN ADVANCE when they are in line, based on back-story, probable appreciation from the viewing audience and interesting fore-story.
I like to think the last 8 paring down is “real” but I am feeling pretty cynical lately...
