Explanation: Sometimes, if you wait long enough for a clear and moonless night, the stars will come out with a vengeance. One such occasion occurred earlier this month at the Piton de l'Eau on Reunion Island. In the foreground, surrounded by bushes and trees, lies a water filled volcanic crater serenely reflecting starlight. A careful inspection near the image center will locate Piton des Neiges, the highest peak on the island, situated several kilometers away. In the background, high above the lake, shines the light of hundreds of stars, most of which are within 100 light years, right in our stellar neighborhood. Far is the distance, arching majestically overhead, is the central band of our home Milky Way Galaxy, shining by the light of millions of stars each located typically thousands of light years away. The astrophotographer reports waiting for nearly two years for the sky and clouds to be just right to get the above shot.

I miss Carl.
I remember Carl primarily for his strong nuclear freeze and anti-StarWars putzivity.
Looks likes a photoshop fantasy.
I know he was a bleeding heart liberal academic but he was good at making hard science interesting to the layman.
I realized that and I watched his series, Cosmos, when it came out, and enjoyed it very much.
But he was deeply and severely flawed. If he were around today he would be working tirelessly to Hide The Decline.
Wow... you know what the tidal forces would be like there ?

Wow... you know what the tidal forces would be like there ?Obviously. That's why the home planet is all desert.
:)
Two planets discovered that orbit within 1.2 million miles of each other.

And I thought I’d seen some skies when backpacking in Caliornia’s High Sierra. Wow!
?
...monument valley BEFORE Worlds Collide?
That’s a beauty!
I was so plagued by 503’s yesterday and it was messing up my FR Universe.
Niburu approaches.
Norvell does great work, but I’m a Ryan Bliss (DigitalBlasphemy.com) fan.
The stars were out with a vengeance. They had switchblades and chains and vowed to get even with that wormhole.
