A secret Bible in which Jesus is believed to predict the coming of the Prophet Muhammad to Earth has sparked serious interest from the Vatican.
Pope Benedict XVI is claimed to want to see the 1,500-year-old book, which many say is the Gospel of Barnabas, that has been hidden by the Turkish state for the last 12 years.
The £14million handwritten gold lettered tome, penned in Jesus' native Aramaic language, is said to contain his early teachings and a prediction of the Prophet's coming.
The leather-bound text, written on animal hide, was discovered by Turkish police during an anti-smuggling operation in 2000.
It was closely guarded until 2010, when it was finally handed over to the Ankara Ethnography Museum, and will soon be put back on public display following a minor restoration.
A photocopy of a single page from the handwritten ancient manuscript is thought to be worth £1.5million.
Turkish culture and tourism minister Ertugrul Gunay said the book could be an authentic version of the Gospel, which was suppressed by the Christian Church for its strong parallels with the Islamic view of Jesus.
He also said the Vatican had made an official request to see the scripture - a controversial text which Muslims claim is an addition to the original gospels of Mark, Matthew, Luke and John.
In line with Islamic belief, the Gospel treats Jesus as a human being and not a God.

It was a gradual process. About 90% of our current NT cannon was universally acknowledged as scripture by the end of the first century. The first written listing of the cannon which is included in most modern bibles was by Althanasius in the 4th Century.
Legend says he was visited by Christ in a dream and converted. Wrote his gospel—and it was suppressed by Romans.
The Apostles decided upon the composition, and of course they wrote (or dictated) most of the books of the New Testament.
No merely old book gets to be a Gospel or part of the Bible: it has to have been accepted by the authority of the Church.
There are various gnostic ‘gospels’ - they are not actual Gospels. They (for instance) contain crazy stories about the young Christ turning his friends into bread and baking them in an oven. As you can guess: the gnostic ‘gospels’ are made-up nonsense and have no validity.
Islamic teachings on the coming of their savior (our anti-Christ) states that the antiChrist will present the worlds religious leaders with long lost proof that Mohamed was the messenger of God and “endorsed” by Jesus.
He will then kill those who refuse to accept it.
Thanks. Had a very quick read about Althanasius and will dig deeper later this evening at home. I didn’t realise that it was such a ‘messy’ process.
Lol. I think that Rowan Atkinson is an under-appreciated comic genius.
It is the Apostle Paul who foretold the coming of the Prophet Muhammad
That’s friggin’ funny right there!
We have been studying Islam in our adult Bible class. The title of the studies is "The dilemma of Islam" and it exposes facts that mad mo actually said the teachings by the Prophets were the truth. Mad mo even uses quotes from several books in the Old Testament.
Several articles on the so called “Gospel” of Barnabas...

Lot of social mobility in those days. He rose through the ranks from river pilot to Governor of Judea. No wonder he got his own gospel.
I wonder if the book is really 1,500 years old, or more like 1387 or less years old; making it’s compilation AFTER Mohammed??
What disciples?
A scam or a forgery. St. Barnabas was real enough, but this is just another of the endless efforts to subvert Christianity with fake documents.
There are some genuinely old documents that simply are not parts of the Bible. But since Mohammed himself was a fake, and the Muslim religion cannot be reconciled with the Bible on the basis of the “historical” facts it invents as well as the ideas it proposes—the Allah-approved goodness of rape, murder, slavery, and oathbreaking, for instance—the idea that Barnabas would have prophesied Mohammed’s coming hundreds of years before his birth is simply unreal.
The pictures are not very distinct, but even there it looks like a fake to me.
“Incredible” is the right word.
