Sharing the results of a massive, worldwide study, geneticist Svante Pääbo shows the DNA proof that early humans mated with Neanderthals after we moved out of Africa. (Yes, many of us have Neanderthal DNA.) He also shows how a tiny bone from a baby finger was enough to identify a whole new humanoid species. Svante Pääbo explores human genetic evolution by analyzing DNA extracted from ancient sources, including mummies, an Ice Age hunter and the bone fragments of Neanderthals.

the Africans do not have the neanderthal genes...the Africans that left Africa 35000 years ago and became the European Cro Magnon until they mated with neanderthal(according to what some believe including myself) and became the European Homosapiens...
AMEN!!!!
Wow, that is profound.
"We are usually not identical copies of each other."
Wow, the pearls of wisdom just keep flowing.
"DNA is probably a far more complex chemical than we realize."
Oh my, you're getting close to my post #33.
"There are probably super computers in there coded in a way we do not yet understand ~ and presumably they work in very small dimensions using quantum processes. What those processes might tap into is unknowable at present."
And we all know that supercomputers design and program themselves.
"It is tempting to think DNA is linked to a great universal overmind ~ which enables it to not only be all things to all men, but also to be all men, all critters, all living things anywhere, under virtually all conditions."
People used to fixate on fossils, now it's DNA. In a few years it will be something else. All purported to 'support' evolution until the don't by which time 'science' is off to the next great thing which won't support evolution when it is fully understood either.
Yet 'science' never learns that the evidence doesn't support evolution because evolution is a philosophy supported by fallacy.
I’m just reading a book by Gilbert Ling which suggests that DNA is just a toolkit used by the cell which is actually the cytoplasm.
I’m actually the list-owner for the TrueOrigin yahoo group.
Which scientist do you believe? NOVA ran a series this week on the evolution of man. They said in this show that the entire Neanderthal genome has now been sequenced and that from this evidence there was no interbreeding between modern man and Neanderthals for 200,000 years.
Where are the fossils filling the transition gap between species A and Species B, in the cases where theorists allege such a transition occurred?
Why do you find it necessary to bring it up?
Because that’s what I was talking about and you responded to me.
Is that hard to understand?
Really? Hey, FReepmail me with more info, wudja?
There is certainly something to that. Some system (wrong word but I can’t think of a better one) decides when to or if to employ any given code in an animal’s DNA and that makes all the difference in what kind of animal is produced. Chickens’ DNA has code in it to grow teeth. What decides not to acces this code in chickens born today?
On the other hand there's this deal recently discovered where brand new stars start spewing vast quantities of water molecules at the poles ~ you can just imagine the kind of pressures you'd find in that environment.
It takes 50,000 atmospheres pressure to force water molecules into a double-helix format. That's certainly a start.
Life itself may be a primary characteristic of this particular universe.
There have been reports of chemicals typical of those that make up cell walls and membranes being available in great quantities in interstellar space.
Two new concepts ~ and they explain how every animal can end up with a liver that works yet it's the right size for the animal, and otherwise works right.
Unless you are an identical copy of your parent and you only have one parent, you are a transitional form. We all are. As are most organisms that live, have lived, or ever will live.
Considering the primitive tools that Darwin had to work with (by today's standards), he really did an amazing job. For him to understand that there are physical limitations to the fossilization process, or that current geological processes destroy evidence of past processes is really impressive.
Let's see. Metabolic pathways between dog and wolf, similar. Metabolic pathways between dog and fungus, dissimilar.
I know you're trying to be dismissive of the actual use of the theory as a real scientist (me) applies it. However, understanding the different evolutionary paths that canids and fungi have taken is crucial for making "educated guesses" about what I should look for when characterizing the metabolic pathway in one species, if I already have knowledge about it in the other species. There is nothing in creationist "theory" that would inform me as to whether canids and fungi have any metabolic pathways in common, much less what similarities and differences I should expect to see between those pathways.
I think neanderthals and us (homo sapiens sapiens) had a common ancestor about 650,000 years ago. *I think*. then some of them moved to Eurasian and deveoped there into Neanderthals.
Homo Sapiens Sapiens developed an independent branch in Africa and then they (we) moved to Eurasia and around the world.
Two species can indeed interbreed; dogs and coyotes, donkeys and horses, domestic cats and some wild cats.
However I am unsure about our Neanderthal genes. I think I’ll wait until there is more proof and more research. Although, after we moved into Eurasia and joined what had become the Neanderthals, we co-existed for about 30,000 years.
Who knows what teenagers will get up to?
Ah, yes, the morel mushroom, and certainly the truffle, have the human alimentary canal in common
Thank you for sharing your religious beliefs with us.
not NOVA....the leftists there on PBS(which we are required to pay for) do not believe that the Neanderthal based European is better than sub Saharan Africans and it is therefore politically incorrect to say so....just as it is politically incorrect to deny anthropomorphic Gore-bull warming....
Rather than have our immediate predecessors living in Africa they want them to live in the Arabian peninsula (at least during periods when it seemed more verdent than at present).
They then develop in Arabia and a bunch move South down the African coast and end up ancestral to all the African types of people. Another bunch move East along the Indian coast and end up ancestral to all the Northern hemispheric types of people.
The Neanderthals simply got to Europe earlier, otherwise they split off from the crowd that moved to Arabia initially.
