Dear Cathy: How do you train a cat to stay out of a crib? Were about to have a baby and I dont want the cat getting into the crib at night?
Erlene
Dear Erlene: To discourage your cat from getting in the crib before the baby comes, place double-sided tape (available at pet stores) or aluminum foil in the crib. When the cat jumps in, he or she wont like the texture and will most likely jump out. After a few attempts, your cat should stop trying to get into the crib. Of course, please remove the foil and tape from the crib when your baby arrives.
However, the best way to keep your cat out of the crib is to make sure the cat is not in the room when you leave it, then close the door and use a monitor to listen for your baby.

I thought the cat was important to drive away the evil little gnome that tries to steal baby’s breath?

With double sided tape, you don’t have to worry about side rails.

And now there’s the theory about the H. Gondii toxoplasmosis parasite carried by cats that causes schizophrenia in humans.

Ahh, but kitteh is too smart for that.

I’m the lion around my house. If I don’t want my Siamese (willful cat) to do something I let out a hiss and a warning growl that keeps her hiding for about for about a day and half. Cats are highly trainable. My 2 cents.

Dear Cathy: How do you train a cat to stay out of a crib? Shut the door to the baby's room and turn on the baby monitor.

I thought she was gonna say, “To keep a cat out of the crib, cut the cat’s legs off.”

Who needs double sided tape? Why worry about a cat in the crib?
It's all about the duct tape, baby.

and when none of that works, there’s always .22 caliber aversion therapy for the cat.

How to keep cat out of baby's crib Duh.
Put a dog in it.

++ for the crib tent. Keeps the baby in (they learn to climb before you know it) and the cat out.

When my mother, surprised at my married sister’s decision to have a baby while still in grad school, blurted out “Why now?” when informed my sister was pregnant, my sister shot back “Because it will give the cats something to smother” LOL......

mostly scare them away
Cats are very helpful to have- as I found out when I moved to the country.
field mice and spiders and all kinds of un-wanted critters seem to dissappear when you get a cat.
