I was doing some web research on prehistoric formations in South America and hit the above website.
It has possibly hundreds of satellite images of what cannot in any sense be natural glyphs and structures on the grounds surrounding Lake Tititaka.
Here is a sample:
Whoever made these artifices, and at what age/time they were made, remain unknown. Literally hundreds, perhaps thousands of square miles of formations.
I know some FReepers are interested in this subject, it certainly seems to me that it might make a bit of a mockery out of any claims that a couple guys crossed the Bering Strait 8000 years ago and that's what started culture in the Western Hemisphere.
Take a look at the pics... they are truly jaw-dropping!
You might really like this post - a lot!
They call it 'Waru Waru' cultivation.
This is another attempt to discredit Biblical archeology with some sort of “scientific” archeology.
The so-called “mass migrations” of Indians has been explained by Noah’s Flood.
Real discoveries by real scientists show that Genesis is correct.
All we think of is the Inca, who didn't even start their rise to power till about 1450.
I highly recommend the book 1491, a discussion of the pre-Columbus history of the Americas. Large areas of the continent that we assume were largely uninhabited prior to the arrival of the white man actually supported massive populations, including much of the Amazon.
These civilizations were wiped out by the epidemics created when the American and Afro-Eurasian disease ecosystems merged, reducing the population of the western hemisphere by 1600 by possibly over 90%.
The problem is this.
These huge areas of terraforming and architectural phenomena are so huge, it makes the great pyramids look like Lincoln Logs.
People marvel at the Nazca images, but that is not even a drop in the bucket compared to all these excavations.
No language? No culture? No cities? No ceramics?
What the heck is this all about?
Bump for later.
When the Spanish arrived, most of these terraces were either in use or very recently abandoned, as the first wave of the plagues had swept into S. America only a year or two earlier.
I don’t see anything particularly mysterious about a population of tens of millions in not particularly hospitable terrain creating massive structures to help them feed an expanding population.
I’m not sure what your last paragraph means. S. America is loaded with unexcavated cities, with ceramics, etc. That few Americans are familiar with them doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
First, I doubt that when the Spanish first arrived, they decided to wander up more than 10,000 feet, maybe just to look at what their ships looked like from their?
I’ve never heard of any speculations that there were “tens of millions” of people. I absolutely agree with that, but do you have a reference?
I am saying this is pretty much beyond anything we see in Europe or the Middle East. Just by it’s very scale, we have to acknowledge some kine of technologies that no one else has yet.
Heh-heh-heh! Heh-heh-heh-heh-heh!!!

While it is a novel, I have always wondered IF this is the reason for mass migrations/extinctions over the eons on earth? The HAB Theory:

I recommend again the book I just Finished...... The History of the Ancient Southwest by Stephen Lekson.
It covers roughly the last 1,500 years in the southwest. He takes the early archeologists to task with the results of massive study resulting from recent federal laws.
He unifies history ignored by the academics who are extremely parochial in their thinking and writing. He is one of them but sheds the stuffy academic attitude.
Strangely believe it, there are huge irrigation canals in and around Phoenix Arizona present for hundreds of years that are massive earth work projects.
Looks like aerial shots of subdivisions.
All done with ancient Chinese missiles
Now I know the origins of the SanBlas Indians of Panama.Look at the molas they produced with the rags provided by Christian Missionaries -then tell me if they did not come form the same origin.
I suggest the book 1491 for discussion of the pre-European population of America.
The issue is hotly debated, but it seems likely many portions of the Americas were much more densely populated than we usually think, and some, like the Amazon and the Four Corners region of the US, more so than today. Most areas were not explored by Europeans till well after the massive die-offs caused by the plagues, so they thought they were exploring regions that had “always” been empty.
The Spanish reported both Mexico and Peru as being much more densely populated than the Europe of their time, but this has routinely been discounted as hyperbole by most historians since. The problem is that while the Spanish were crude and rude (not to mention violent), they DID know how to count. After all, launching successful invasions many thousands of miles away requires considerable logistics, which requires a good deal of math.
OTOH, in recent decades it became politically correct to inflate the civilization and population levels of the pre-European Americas as a way of denouncing the evil white man for destroying it. A strange thing to do, IMO, as the population drop was 95% due to pathogens, which whitey didn’t even understand till the late 19th century, much less know how to control. Exactly the same die-off in the Americas would have occurred had the Aztecs or Mayas sailed up the Thames to initiate contact with the Old World.
