ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A moose in an Alaska park kicked a woman who got too close while trying to pet it, police said.
Police spokeswoman Anita Shell said the unidentified woman in Anchorage's Town Square Park was kicked several times in the chest and shoulder Monday about 4:30 p.m. but declined to go the hospital, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
The animal was seen feeding on trees in the park during the day and continued its feed after the woman, in her 20s, and police left about 5 p.m., the newspaper said Tuesday.
"At this time, we are telling people not to agitate the moose -- to give it space," Shell said. "It was just doing what moose do."
Now you are just milking this thread.
heh
A good moose story about moose doing what moose do, and people thinking they are not wild animals is worth repeating often.
My old boss in Alaska told of his first year in Anchorage. A moose was in his back yard. Since his deck had a good handrail and was raised up 4 feet, he felt brave enough to go outside.
The moose wandered over, so he got a carrot out and feed it. Then he wondered what else it would eat. Turns out everything in his fridge (which is really bad for the moose). When he run out of food, the moose got mad and tore off all the railing with his Antlers.
My boss was cowering inside, praying it wasn't going to jump on the deck and come through the glass door looking for more food.
Stupid, big and strong is not a safe combination either.
I would not do that to a completely wild moose, but that was Semour. Semour was at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation in Portage, AK. He was handled a lot, used to do commercials, etc. I would not trust him without the fence, but he usually would wander to the fence because he liked attention.

It was a great place for pictures. My best bear picture came from the same place. This is Hugo and friends:

I was in Alaska when this happened. The video ran on the local news.
That is crazy!! A moose once bit another FReeper’s sister.
That thing must weigh 1K lbs!
Geezo!
I’ll feed a seagul but not that sucker!
Reference bump! ;-)
A girl at church stopped for a moose in the road this winter, it turrned and ripped her car up with it’s antlers.
Why does this story remind me of what is happening with public unions right now?
AHHH she only wanted to pet it...wth? Can you say DUH? Do we give darwin awards to people who survive?
If she’s dumb enough to try and pet a wild moose, odds are she’ll do something even dumber in the near future.
Don’t show that to Michelle Obama. She’ll want a multi-billion dollar program to battle childhood obesity in mooses (meese?).
