Is it possible to have a reasoned debate with Democrats and left-wingers?
Digg.com ^

Posted on 01/18/2011 9:40:38 PM PST by crazynewzealander

On one of the most democrat-infested places on the net (Digg.com) a story was posted about Obama supposedly cutting down on regulation that has hurt job creation.

I know I'm not a US citizen, but I feel that it is vitally important for the future of the world that the current leftist, socialist insanity in the US and Europe is ended. The Internet is one of the best mediums to enlighten those who have bought into the con.

Here is the comment I left on this Digg article to try and talk some sense into Obama supporters, I'd like to see what you guys thought about it, as I am very interested in "spreading the good word" as it were. I'd also like to encourage other members of this forum to make Digg accounts (and any other websites you know of like it) and comment on relevant stories using reasoned logic, not flames and curse words, so that we can turn the tide one website at a time, and therefore one vote at a time.

" Here's what needs to happen in the US economy to get things on track again:

* The belief that US is going to remain the world's pre-eminent superpower must be dropped; the west and east are going to balance out a lot more. I don't believe China will become the world's great super-power, due to their aging population, huge inflation and bubble problems, as well as massive falsifying of their economic growth to avoid 'losing face.' However, in the west we MUST manage our decline, rather than resisting.

* Drilling for oil, mining for coal, coal-to-oil, and oil shale resources in the USA need to be exploited. Does nobody see the hypocrisy restricting domestic drilling whilst allowing foreign entities to drill near the US coastline, or importing oil from oppressive middle-eastern regimes because we are too "enlightened" and "green" to use our own resources? By increasing domestic oil, gas, and coal production, large numbers of viable jobs will be created, government tax revenue will increase but not at the expense of any consumers as oil prices will tumble. US money will stay onshore and out of the hands of foreign, borderline-enemies.

* The tax taken from this increased production should be used to fund R&D into viable alternative energy, so solar, safe nuclear, hydro, and not BS technologies like wind. It is sheer madness to punish the population for using hydrocarbons when no viable alternative exists on the required scale as yet.

* Government spending needs to be tamed, big time. Welfare needs to be slashed (anyone with half a brain knows that welfare is harmful to the economy, and does little but create "handout addiction") the war on terror needs to end, all unproductive government jobs must be ruthlessly cut, wasteful govt departments need to be abolished, and a focus placed on private charity and private education.

* Business tax rates need to be slashed (or at least tax breaks for companies that actually produce goods) Local products can become more price competitive and hiring will increase so more jobs in private sector.

* Stop punishing the middle and upper class- it's not their fault you're poor. Income Tax needs to be flat, but more emphasis needs to be placed on getting welfare recipients and lower income earners into more skilled or higher paying jobs.

* The Federal Reserve needs to be abolished. End of story. QE and increasing the money supply only benefits the government and punishes the rest of society through higher food and energy prices. Currency needs to be backed by something tangible, not the promises of slick but deceitful politicians. Private currencies should be allowed to take the control of the money supply away from the banks.

Seriously America, we need to start voting with our heads, not our hearts and become a bit better informed about the real causes of the current economic crisis. Obama is a cool guy, but economically he is a moron. Just accept this and move on. He is the kind of guy you would want as a friend, not as a financial advisor.

Read Von Hayek and Von Mises, get clued up on the Austrian school of economics, get your economic news from websites such as Market Oracle and the Daily Bell (not idiotic, toe-the-line sites like CNN and Fox) and start letting your local politicans know that if they dont improve their game, hell is gonna be raised for them.

It may sound hard, but it sure beats food riots, expensive energy, and the destruction of the middle class."

Thanks for reading, and all the best. You can count on me to do my little bit, even if I live on the other side of the world.

...it never works..they either get it or not...

I no longer have lib friends period. It’s unsolvable short of votes or baring that... war.

Man, you're reading my mind. That is exactly my thinking and experience with libs.

After my own enlightenment, I spent years debating with libs, only to come to the realization that coming into the light is a personal journey. You can't spoon feed someone a higher level of awareness. They've got to get hungry enough to claw it out of the ground for themselves.

I finally gave up trying to bring libs in out of the cold. It's why I rarely comment on open boards where libs leave their droppings. Most of them just crap on all of your finely constructed logic and reasoning.

Hopefully, we won't have to have a war to sort this country out, but sometimes it sure looks that way. Damn shame.

Rush just lets them ramble because it proves everything he has ever said about Liberals.

Hannity on the other hand, gets into discussions with the Libtards calling him instead of just letting them ramble on and make fools of themselves like Rush lets them do.
Hannity is a lightweight. I remember when Michael Moore made Hannity look foolish when discussing Religion.

TGO Mark Levin tears them up and the idiot callers don't even realize it.

The common thread among Democrats I find, is that most are HORRIBLY uninformed on the issues, and know only what the Propaganda soundbites from the Soros Orgs tell them, as regurgitated by the alphabet networks, and John Stewart.

LIBERALS on the other hand, are hateful, not interested in facts, and see this as an “US!” vs. “THEM!!” game, like it’s the Packers(fudge) vs. the Bears...

The gal had no intention of listening so he let her have the floor time and again.

That's what disappointed me. Rush has got to know that most of his listeners have been surrounded by drooling moonbats for most of their lives. We've heard all of their verbal excrement before.

What was the point of dumping that crap all over the airwaves today? He let the libs have a win. It sounded for all the world like she cooked his goose.

Of course, we know better, but I think it backfired. Libs all over the country will be replaying that clip and making a hero out of that raving nut bag.

Thanks for your swift replies everybody.

The question I asked in the title is extremely pertinent to me as in NZ, Labour party (closes thing to the democrats) supporters tend to be very open to debate. In fact political debate is something that is done rather well here.

Because I do not live in the US I cannot say from experience how the left wing element in your country behaves. I can only go on what I see in the news etc.

If there is anything any of you would like to know about how nations outside of the US view the state of US affairs, please fire away. I shall do my best to answer all questions.

And to however said that I lost them when examining the decline of the USA as the world’s ONLY preeminent super power, please explain how I lost you.

I am English by descent, so I know all about great nations and their inevitable declines after all.

Rush just lets them ramble because it proves everything he has ever said about Liberals.

Proves it to who? Us? We already get it. Letting them ramble on and on just makes it look to libs like Rush doesn't have the skills or facts to shut them down.

Maybe he thinks it's funny, but I think he looks weak when he does this, and by extension, all conservatives.

Mark Levin tears them up and the idiot callers don't even realize it.

Give me Levin's style of handling libs any day of the week. Screw the entertainment. People in their important positions need to smack these idiots down to the pavement, and make the case for conservatism and patriotism every minute they're on the mic.

I have found that the only way to shut them up is to vomit their own leaders words into their mouths.

I have a “friend” at work (I do genuinely care for) that is extremely liberal (thinks Cha was a great man) sometimes the only way I can say to shut him up about Sarah or conservative women is to ask him if he thinks that ALL conservative women are stupid or is it just Sarah? I will also just through out there when he is going on about conservatives and/or Sarah, Don’t worry about it Dad we conservative women are just a bunch or “stupid, whore bitches”. It’s slow training but it seems to be working.

I don’t believe in being tactful, I believe back in your face full steam ahead.

We're English by descent too, cousin, but we believe in our nation's exceptionalism and innate superiority.

Try it sometime. It feels good, and makes you a better person. Not to mention the fact that when a people no longer believe they lead the world, they don't. Real exceptionalism begins in the heart and mind.

I long for the brilliance England once had, and for the fact that it has spawned so many great accomplishments in the world; I am vehemently proud of my nation of descent, but I cannot escape the truth that the “sceptered isle” has gone to the dogs.

There are true British Patriots- the British National Party (which broke away from the skinhead national front) and even the somewhat violent English Defence League still do their best to stir up the feelings of pride that were felt say when the Falkland Islands were reclaimed, or the Battle of Britain was won. I still fall into this category, whilst being proud of NZ too (for such a small country we have achieved a lot. We invented the jet boat, built one of the fastest motorbikes in the world in a garden shed, were the first to give women the vote, and the Maori battalion were supposedly the only soldiers Rommel feared during WW2)

I don’t want to see the same fate befall the USA as has befallen England. I am still proud, I am still hopeful, but I have to face the facts.

If you're "facing the facts", and are the patriot you claim to be, then you'll get pissed off and start fighting back against the commies who are destroying your nation. That's what we patriots in America are doing.

Chin up! Knock off the sniveling and get to work!

Is it possible to have a reasoned debate with Democrats and left-wingers?

Yes but only if their names are Pat Caddell and Dough Schoen.

On my recent trip to the UK I managed to convince some of my family members to see the light; I’ve donated to and supported many pro-British parties and institutions in the past, I’ve done many of the practicable steps when I live miles away.

However, I can’t just show up to a protest march in London can I?

I’ve been told by many that my gift is with words, so that’s what I am using to make my mark, so at least I can die with a clean conscience.

I feel that this Churchill quote once again has relevance today- “There is no room for the dilettante, the weakling, for the shirker, or the sluggard. The mine, the factory, the dockyard, the salt sea waves, the field to till, the home, the hospital, the chair of the scientist, the pulpit of the preacher — from the highest to the humblest tasks, all are of equal honor; all have their part to play.”

So, that's what this is about? Great Britain? Not New Zealand?

Color me confused.

Did you not learn anything this week?

Your question answers itself. The left defines irrationality.

Its about both really. You simply asked why I had given up on England and I showed you that I hadn’t.

Even I get confused sorry, I’m a citizen of both countries, been influenced by both (as you can probably tell)

I am better able to talk about current NZ politics, world views etc however, as I have lived there for 18 years.

Simplier idea: government needs to get the f out of the way. Smaller government doing less means the free market will blossom.

...”NO. Next question”...

No, because they are driven by aggression and hate against normal people. They are “cult-like” and they intend to enslave the strong and productive in society through government power and oppression and confiscation of property through taxation or inflation.

I heard it, too. He just let her prove her irrationality. In the end, it was obvious that Rush is her “fix.” She is addicted to him and cannot help herself because somewhere inside she knows he is right..I guess you could say people like her will come “kicking and screaming” to his side.
