Is it possible to have a reasoned debate with Democrats and left-wingers?
Digg.com ^

Posted on 01/18/2011 9:40:38 PM PST by crazynewzealander

On one of the most democrat-infested places on the net (Digg.com) a story was posted about Obama supposedly cutting down on regulation that has hurt job creation.

I know I'm not a US citizen, but I feel that it is vitally important for the future of the world that the current leftist, socialist insanity in the US and Europe is ended. The Internet is one of the best mediums to enlighten those who have bought into the con.

Here is the comment I left on this Digg article to try and talk some sense into Obama supporters, I'd like to see what you guys thought about it, as I am very interested in "spreading the good word" as it were. I'd also like to encourage other members of this forum to make Digg accounts (and any other websites you know of like it) and comment on relevant stories using reasoned logic, not flames and curse words, so that we can turn the tide one website at a time, and therefore one vote at a time.

" Here's what needs to happen in the US economy to get things on track again:

* The belief that US is going to remain the world's pre-eminent superpower must be dropped; the west and east are going to balance out a lot more. I don't believe China will become the world's great super-power, due to their aging population, huge inflation and bubble problems, as well as massive falsifying of their economic growth to avoid 'losing face.' However, in the west we MUST manage our decline, rather than resisting.

* Drilling for oil, mining for coal, coal-to-oil, and oil shale resources in the USA need to be exploited. Does nobody see the hypocrisy restricting domestic drilling whilst allowing foreign entities to drill near the US coastline, or importing oil from oppressive middle-eastern regimes because we are too "enlightened" and "green" to use our own resources? By increasing domestic oil, gas, and coal production, large numbers of viable jobs will be created, government tax revenue will increase but not at the expense of any consumers as oil prices will tumble. US money will stay onshore and out of the hands of foreign, borderline-enemies.

* The tax taken from this increased production should be used to fund R&D into viable alternative energy, so solar, safe nuclear, hydro, and not BS technologies like wind. It is sheer madness to punish the population for using hydrocarbons when no viable alternative exists on the required scale as yet.

* Government spending needs to be tamed, big time. Welfare needs to be slashed (anyone with half a brain knows that welfare is harmful to the economy, and does little but create "handout addiction") the war on terror needs to end, all unproductive government jobs must be ruthlessly cut, wasteful govt departments need to be abolished, and a focus placed on private charity and private education.

* Business tax rates need to be slashed (or at least tax breaks for companies that actually produce goods) Local products can become more price competitive and hiring will increase so more jobs in private sector.

* Stop punishing the middle and upper class- it's not their fault you're poor. Income Tax needs to be flat, but more emphasis needs to be placed on getting welfare recipients and lower income earners into more skilled or higher paying jobs.

* The Federal Reserve needs to be abolished. End of story. QE and increasing the money supply only benefits the government and punishes the rest of society through higher food and energy prices. Currency needs to be backed by something tangible, not the promises of slick but deceitful politicians. Private currencies should be allowed to take the control of the money supply away from the banks.

Seriously America, we need to start voting with our heads, not our hearts and become a bit better informed about the real causes of the current economic crisis. Obama is a cool guy, but economically he is a moron. Just accept this and move on. He is the kind of guy you would want as a friend, not as a financial advisor.

Read Von Hayek and Von Mises, get clued up on the Austrian school of economics, get your economic news from websites such as Market Oracle and the Daily Bell (not idiotic, toe-the-line sites like CNN and Fox) and start letting your local politicans know that if they dont improve their game, hell is gonna be raised for them.

It may sound hard, but it sure beats food riots, expensive energy, and the destruction of the middle class."

Thanks for reading, and all the best. You can count on me to do my little bit, even if I live on the other side of the world.

My experience is they eventually walk away when you dialogue with them. Hard for them to defend even why they are a democrate in many cases.

It could happen if you used enough scopalomine on them.

Or a healthy dose of nitrous oxide.

It’s possible...if you can shut down your brain and talk out of your ass.

That has been my experience as well. Either that or screaming their point in my ear. Never a logical discussion.

In my experience, no. The final straw for me was the Iraq WMD argument. The whole "Bush lied people died" line.

That argument was so lame and illogical, and no one would listen to reason.

No..they are ill informed, emotional and antiChristian and occasionally anti observant Jews too

anyone hear caller Pat on Rush today

she fit all that

he wussed out and let her slide on her “You Christians” tirade...man he shoulda creamed her

Oy Vey

Lord knows I’ve tried since I saw the light in late 70s....it never works..they either get it or not...I no longer have lib friends period.

Leftism and it’s evil twin political correctness (something I never had to face as a lib-libertarian lad) and Conservatives represent humans with distinctly different life viewpoints, personalities and perspectives.

It’s not coincidence too that it often divides along gender, race and religion or even regional.

It’s unsolvable short of votes or baring that... war.

Sad eh.

The ‘ Bush Cheney pulled off the 9/11 attacks for their friends in the oil business ‘ is pretty close to when I learned you can not have a reasonable debate with these people.

Of course, listening to liberals proclaim ‘ oral sex isn't sex ‘ after President Clinton told them it wasn't should have been a strong clue that these fools will believe anything.

* The Federal Reserve needs to be abolished.”

You might want to FReep mail Freeper Jazusamo who runs the Thomas Sowell ping list. You'll love those threads - and the folks who follow them. You'll get a ‘ ping ‘ from Jazusamo every time Sowell has posted a new article. Sowell is a national treasure.

Tons and tons of great ping lists here on FR - mountains of info and facts.

I heard that loon. I sat here in my office and just shook my head. She epitomizes a left wing fruitcake. Never shutting up, talking over everybody and refusing, absolutely refusing to consider common sense. If they are leveling accusations, they get almost hysterical when asked for an example.

No is the answer to the question. I don’t have to read the article.

You cannot argue with Rainman

As long as a government collects an income tax people will never be free because government is controlling its peoples wealth via stealing how much they want on any given day.

Many also have no clue what’s going on in the US let alone the world...so even simple dialogue is difficult. Makes you wonder why they even bother to vote at all. Guess they are indeed the followers of the Piped Piper.

ABSOLUTELY!! It's the same as having a discussion about the merits of Judaism with Hezbollah . . . . . or Iranian president Ahm-a-nutjob!!!

I heard it, and it was downright embarrassing. Rush sounded like he had BOTH halves of his brain tied behind his back on that call.

He did the same thing with "Mr. New Castrati" a few weeks back.

The man is unequaled when pontificating at length about conservative principles, and political stategery, but lately, he's fallen flat when faced with liberal bombast on the show.

I think he's rusty. He needs to debate libs more often to get his groove back.

I think it is extremely well written and many good points. Will it influence them? Who knows but it can’t hurt.

I heard it too...funny.....she just went on and on....and Rush encouraged her right along. It was hysterical. The gal had no intention of listening so he let her have the floor time and again.
