The show ends with Chris Medina. He's wearing his engagement ring on a necklace. He explains why. Two months before he was going to marry his girlfriend of 8 years, she got into a car accident. She survived but suffered severe brain damage. Now she's in a wheelchair, unable to speak.
Chris blows them away with his audition.
The judges want to meet his girlfriend.
Wow ... this is making even me tear up.
The judges stand and walk over to her and hug her. Steven kisses her on the cheek.

His only tie to her is his love. He could have kicked out any time but has clearly chosen to hew to his love.
They don’t make ‘em like that anymore.
It is GREAT he has a good voice. Yeah, we get some schmaltz but only a cynic wouldn’t like this story.

I beg to differ. These are some pretty big stars. Yeah, it was for the cameras, but do you think that matters to her? I am thinking she is thinking “I got to meet and hug J-Lo and got a kiss from Stephen Tyler!”
I understand your perspective but it looked like she was pretty darn happy to me. Does it matter so much why?
