Wikileaks cable reveals U.S. conspired to retaliate against European nations if they resisted GMOs
Natural news ^ | December 24, 2010 | Mike Adams

Wikileaks continues to rock the political world by shedding light on conspiracies, corruption and cover-ups. The latest batch of diplomatic cables released by Wikileaks reveals what can only be characterized as a U.S.-led conspiracy to force GMOs onto European countries by making those countries pay a steep price if they resist.

The cable reveals the words of Craig Stapleton, the US ambassador to France, who was pushing the commercial interests of the biotech industry by attempting to force GMOs into France. In his own words (below), he expresses his frustration with the idea that France might pass environmental laws that would hamper the expansion of GMOs:

“Europe is moving backwards not forwards on this issue with France playing a leading role, along with Austria, Italy and even the [European] Commission… Moving to retaliation will make clear that the current path has real costs to EU interests and could help strengthen European pro-biotech voice.”

Got that so far? His own words: “Retaliation” as a way to “make [it] clear” that resisting GMOs will have a price.

Stapleton goes on to say something rather incredible:

“Country team Paris recommends that we calibrate a target retaliation list that causes some pain across the EU since this is a collective responsibility, but that also focuses in part on the worst culprits. The list should be measured rather than vicious and must be sustainable over the long term, since we should not expect an early victory…”

As you read these words again, remember that these are the words of the U.S. ambassador to France who is suggesting the US “calibrate a target retaliation list” in order to “cause some pain across the EU” that must be “sustainable over the long term.”

‘It is not the job of the United States Government to meddle in other countries decisions to further the bottom line of American countries.’

If the other countries are making economic war upon our citizens, it is very definitely the duty of the US government to defend us against these attacks.

“satire”

True. I could have found better articles.

“The first step towards a ban on all competing natural products on an international scale was the EU Directive on Supplements that was approved by the European Parliament earlier this year.

The proposed EU Laws also threaten the access to high dosage vitamins in the Unite States via international trade harmonization.

Did you know that there are now 16 European states promoting the European Directive on supplements in the Codex Alimentarius Commission to become the new “world standards” for vitamins?

Did you know that until now only the US and New Zealand with one vote each are opposing this model against the 16 EU States (1 vote each!)?”

See “Free Trade of the Americas Agreement (FTAA)”

Codex Alimentarius, which was stopped in the US in December, 2009, and passed in December, 2010, in S510.

Yeah, except they think they should have free access to OUR markets. But their government passes laws blocking our products for imaginary reasons.

That isn’t free trade, or forcing our product.

That is one of the stupidest arguments I’ve read recently on FR and I’ve read a lot of stupid stuff.

France is not making economic war - they just don’t want to be pressured to accept GMO’s - and last time I checked - that’s their choice.

Monsanto is a multi-national corp (I wouldn’t classify it as a US co) that has very, very deep tentacles. They are NOT good and they don’t give a rat’s a$$ about the US.

They are not making economic war against our citizens.

A corporation is manipulating the USG administration to force other countries to accept their products.

When the USG forgets its basic constitutional duties it is an embarrassment to us all.

If foreign countries conspire together to exclude US products because they can’t compete it is definitely economic war. This was also true of the US embargo against Japan in 1941, which resulted in Pearl Harbor, which was not justified, but was motivated by the embargo. They don’t call such activities ‘Trade Wars’ for nothing.

1989 : (ALAR SCARE -- See FENTON, WWW) One of Fenton's most publicized achievements was his 1989 attack against the producers of Alar, a preservative used in apples that he  erroneously reported as carcinogenic. The misinformation Fenton fed to the news media triggered mass hysteria and caused the apple industry to lose over $200 million in revenue. Later, in a memo uncovered by the Wall Street Journal, Fenton bragged, "We designed [the campaign against Alar] so that revenue would flow back to the Natural Resources Defense Council from the public." The Natural Resources Defense Council was another of Fenton's primary clients.  --------This profile [of David Fenton] was adapted from the article titled "Peaceful Tomorrows, Leftists Todays," written by Thomas Ryan and published by FrontPageMagazine.com on March 17, 2004.

It is a lie to say that we are trying to force our products on anyone. Do you know of any plans to send an occupying army to France to make them buy these seeds? They are using force to exclude our products. Under our Constitution American corporations are ‘persons’, with the same rights as you and I.

For a primer on GMO (genetically modified organism) used in the food chain and touching on other areas like medicines, I suggest ‘The Future of Food 2004’ about 90 minutes long. Netflix has it on ‘watch now’ besides mail order.

Pay close attention @ 6 minutes concerning how our Founding Father handled patents and later on how Monsanto and the US Supreme Court changed them. If you don’t understand any or all the aspects of GMO, you will after watching this documentary and be given the foundational information you need to follow along with today’s news and current events.

Scary.

How could these foreign governments end up being “urged” in the first place? Do not the “leftists” believe that US defense spending is way too much (In terms of GDP) and should emulate the Europeans, who provide sufficient funds to “defend” themselves? How could the “leftists” be so wrong?

Corporations are “legal fictions” and probably one of the largest economic mistakes made in this country.

Force here means to use different sanctions to punish countries who do not open their borders to GMO products.

sooo...if you dont buy what I am sellling and I prevent your daughters and sons from getting the shoes and coats they need this winter...heck I didnt really FORCE you. Hey, you had a choice.

Most of the information that has been released is public knowledge. Much of this information has appeared in the international section of the Wall Street Journal over the years.

My take is that the generic media see no reason to report news - If it does not bleed it does not lead.

With the publication of this “leaked” information the MSM is realy being forced/shamed into doing its job and educating many Americans.

"It sounds like you are looking for organic seeds. Each state has a different definition of ‘Organic’ in it’s state code. So be sure to understand what may be organic in one state, may not be in another."

I don't want homosexual GMO seeds.

Based on your answer, it is apparent you do not understand what GMO seeds are. I do not need my State to tell me what its definition of organic is. Like some bureaucrat would know. LOL

Aren't all seeds created by God, organic?

"In Iowa, I believe soil MUST NOT have had commercial herbicides and pesticides used on the soil for 3 years before a field can grow certified organic produce. (assuming, of course, that organic seed is planted to this field)"

Based on this statement, a GMO seed would pass the "organic" test. Just grow them on untreated soil and voila! organic, all natural veggies.

Absolutely! There are many people on this forum sadly misguided.

There are institutions that have no interest whatsoever in the US taxpayer except what they can rape them for, and Monsanto is one of them; no different than Goldman Sachs. One may call this capitalism, but when the threshold is transgressed it becomes something else.

There are indeed some on this forum who do realize how companies cave to Obama et.al. And that is what the lobby power is all about. There really is a corrupt government-business cabal subverting the independence of the taxpayer in the US. It was called Fascism.

Monsanto is not a friend of any who don't work for them.

Big big mistake for those who claim to be conservative, then blindly support certain big businesses. This is a primary reason for dismantling the power and authority of leftist centralized government.

‘Force here means to use different sanctions to punish countries who do not open their borders to GMO products.’

Failure to open their borders to our products is in violation of their treaty obligations to our government. They are using this ultra-left GMO fantasy to justify violating their sworn word to our nation. We are not seeking anything more than the right to compete with their inferior products, a right we have under the law. No one is being required to buy anything, merely to allow our goods on their markets. If they don’t like it, we can say that French wine is contaminated, and forbid its importation.
