What was your story that brought you here to this site.
KingVanity and I were watching Alan Keyes in a Free Republic event in DC on CSPAN.
Fell head over hills for Keyes as a family and checked out the sponser of the event FR.
The rest has been history.
Freedom - Whiskey - Sexy!
Spent most of my time reading RSS newsfeeds and boring articles. Stumbled onto Free Republic one day and CONSERVATIVES were actually talking amongst themselves, telling jokes and posting pictures. I was home.
” I Was A Teenaged Blog Pimp!”
Lookin’ forward to THAT story! lol
Personally...I was chikken. ;o)
I knew about FR before the Monica thang happened...from Drudge...and Rush.
When that story proved to be true..breaking on CNN on Jan. 22, 1998...I decided to ask my husband if I could use his computer.
Of course, I didn’t know lick spittle about it. lol
But, he showed me, and I found this site. For Christmas, 1998, he bought me a computer.
Lordy...the ASH alerts and DITHF were marvels to me! The replies...OTOH...scared me to death.
I lurked all of that time before I got up the gumption to sign up on Aug. 16, 2000.
This was pre-MOD days...free for all at all hours of the day and night. But, I found some of the most intelligent people I’ve ever encountered during my lurking days...and continue to find those smart folks even today.
No...you aren’t one of them. lol JK You are one of the interesting folks who keeps me loving this forum.
FREE A+Bert!!! ;o)
It was the incisive, and often humorous, comments and the informative articles.
I forgot to ping you to my post above.
To sum it up, FR is the reason I know how to use a computer. I had no interest in it before I found FR to be the cutting edge of the new media...before there was such a thing as “new media”.
Long-time Freeper, Josh Painter (aka Sturm Ruger) used to post articles with links back to FR, at a forum I used to hang out at. I stopped in here frequently, and lurked for years before finally joining up in 2007.
> FREE A+Bert!!!
Cheap at half the price!
Alternate motto for the French Revolution?
I used to lurk at alt.impeach.clinton back in ‘98 and saw a mention of Free Republic.
Like a stray cat, I sniffed around, got a meal, and never left.
Heard something about free beer, so I came for a look see. Turns out the beer wasn’t free, but I stayed anyway.
At the time, around 1998, I was a regular on the AOL political message boards. It seemed that whoever the board administrators were, they were abusing their positions in favor of the liberals on the boards. Many conservative posts were getting deleted for minro or non existant infractions, yet liberal posts, no matter how outrageous, were allowed to stay. Someone who got tired of the censorship simply mentioned freerepublic as an alternative. I came here and have been here ever since.
Thanks adam_az.
Cheers!
I was home from work with a badly injured leg. I got tired of talking to liberals and wondered if I was the only conservative left.
I typed in conservative websites and the rest is history.
Drudge Report while reading it at the J2 office in Brindisi, Italy in 1998.
The Bush memo’s.
People who love America and think like I do.
Same here, FRiend!
I forget.
I was a commentator on the Grudge Match humor website, and so was FReeper Darth Sidious. When we started corresonding via email, he kept inviting me to FR.
Bite your tongue!
But this is a good opportunity to say that JimRob & Company designed an outstanding site. Since this is the first forum I used and all the others feel like a kludge to me.
