OK, I HAVE AVOIDED THE BIRTHER ISSUE UNTIL WATCHING ANDERSON COOPER TONIGHT . . .

Posted on 04/21/2010 8:28:03 PM PDT by MrChips

OK, so I have read a little, listened a little, and figured that the question of Obama's citizenship and birth would never be answered, so why dive into it. But just now, I listened to Anderson Cooper on CNN (I know, I know, why am I watching PRAVDA?) blabber on and on in a very assertive, denunciatory tone to someone from Arizona over that state's recent passage of a bill requiring presidential candidates to prove their citizenship. Cooper went on ad nauseum about how stupid anyone is who questions Obama, how the birth certificate has been PROVEN to be authentic, that the matter should be settled. But the adamancy in his voice bothered me. Why is he so exercised about it if that is really true? He'd be calm, or so I said to myself. Anyway, anybody else watch this?

I think his birth certificate is genuine, and I think this whole thing is hilarious. I hope all the democrats who sat on thier hands during showings of Loose Change and Fahrenheit 911 are enjoying this as much as I am. I hope they’re having fits. I hope they get their asses handed to them, not on principle, but on wild and unprovable conspiracy theories.

It’s petty and vindictive, but payback is a bitch and it’s about time.

Hitler was NOT a right winger. He was a National SOCIALIST. LEFTIST. He didn’t like the communists because they were rivals.

Sheesh.

Is that true? I have never heard that angle.
Normally a person does a bit of research into a subject before entering into a discussion.
By your ignorance it would seem that you're not normal.
Would you like some suggestions on threads or articles on where you can begin your self education?

Well, they are red states, except that FL is a battleground state and important. THAT one could spell trouble for Obama in 2012 over this.

Hmmm, why does that sound so familiar? Oh, wait, I think I've been hearing something similar for years now - something like this:

"... went on ad nauseum about how stupid anyone is who questions global warming, how global warming has been PROVEN to be authentic, that the matter has been settled by consensus."

Yeh, I really don’t know - it seems like they are all scared to deal with the issue. I don’t think we will know in my lifetime why.

However, 40 years or so from now it will probably be well known, just like JFK’s affairs, the stealing of the JFK election in Chicago, the assassinations of various leaders, and the attempted assasination of Castro, Alger Hiss was a communist afterall. etc etc.

Only children born from the union of two US citizen’s is elgible to become our president.

Is that true? I have never heard that angle.

It comes from the phrase "natural born citizen" in Article II, Section I of the Constitution.

Written in the original framers' understanding, a natural born citizen is born BOTH on US soil AND with a single, solitary allegiance to the sovreign [the US]. In most general terms, it means being born on US soil of parents who are US citizens.

If a child is born on US soil, his father being an alien, AND the father's country lays claim to the child's citizenship - that child is a dual national and DOES NOT have a single, solitary allegiance to the sovreign. The child is a citizen of the US by virtue of being born on US soil [14th Amendment], but he is NOT natural born.

In our times, since international travel is so prevalent, the framer's would probably agrre to dropping the "born on US soil" part - thus allowing a child born overseas to be natural born, AS LONG AS HIS PARENTS ARE US CITIZENS ...

No, Anderson, if you’re born gay you’re definitely not natural born.

Check out rxsid’s comment #12, he does an excellent job of explaining what a natural born citizen is.

That’s not necessarily the case. The Foreign Affairs manual published by the State Department, states that American citizens (specifically non-naturalized) born abroad to two American citizens may not be natural born citizens eligible for the presidency under the Constitution. It cites the fact that the courts have never ruled definitively on the issue.

I can provide a link to the manual if you’d like to read it for yourself. But the fact that a government agency indicates there may be a difference between a citizen (non-naturalized) and a natural born citizen provides sufficient reason, IMO, to question Obama’s status.

We need a SCOTUS ruling.

Yes, I read that. It is good. There is also a lot of good info about Vattel’s Law of Nations, and other writings during the Constitutional Convention, which also indicates that NBC must have 2 citizen parents and jurisdiction of the USA.

Nice talking to you. Getting sleepy now. Goodnight.

This thread - and it’s not long - has some really excellent comments, including about the falsity of the COLB posted on the internet.

Unless the Supreme Court decides otherwise, there are only 2 types of citizens. Those who were not born citizens but earned citizenship sometime after birth (naturalized) and those born with citizenship whether here to foreign parents or abroad to US parents.
Could you give the source/sources of your assertions? You need to back up such things or risk being questioned on the authenticity of them.

If you gained citizenship at birth you are a natural born citizen and all this crazy talk otherwise is nothing but wasted bandwidth.
Are you sure about that? How have you come to such a conclusion? Your scenario makes the child of two illegal aliens a natural born citizen despite neither parent being an American Citizen which is a precursor to be a natural born citizen.
