Whether you like history or not... These are pretty amazing considering they were taken up to 145 years ago: A compendium of photos from the Civil War era. Truly fortunate that so many of these have survived. Probably a million wet plate photos were made during the civil war on glass plate.

I didn’t even get a load. I got to some page that said click here to view the pics and then I got some pop up that I get when ixquick is unable to access a site. I tried it about 3 times.

Obviously Photoshopped!
As we all know Now, in our enlightened NEW AGE of Obama, American History did not officially begin until 1877! LOL.
Of COURSE you know I am teasing. Those are GREAT. Thank You. I am a Civil War Nut on top of everything else. LOL

Those are very interesting. I am always on the lookout for a photo containing either my great-grandfather (Private from Ohio) or my great-grandmother’s brother (Sergeant from Pennsylvania) who actually died a POW.

Wasn’t Lincoln prior to 1877? I thought Obama was a lincoln fan? Aren’t you talking about the NC school books?

Yes, the NC Curriculum, and some other states are trying to do this too!
I think 1877 saw the birth of the Labor Movement in the USA. That must be it.

Remember when Obama told that crowd in Selma Alabama that he was conceived in 1961 because of events that occurred in 1964? This is a man that is not limited to the normal conditions of time-space.

I have a wonderful old book of photos/sketches that I used in writing my book. My parents bought it for me when I was VERY young. It is mainly from the files of Harper’s Weekly.

FWIW, I remember reading that in 1889 the War Department had over two million Civil War glass plate photographs, most of which were not well catalogued or captioned.
