Those are very interesting. I am always on the lookout for a photo containing either my great-grandfather (Private from Ohio) or my great-grandmother’s brother (Sergeant from Pennsylvania) who actually died a POW.

I have a wonderful old book of photos/sketches that I used in writing my book. My parents bought it for me when I was VERY young. It is mainly from the files of Harper’s Weekly.
The Civil War in Pictures by Fletcher Pratt 1955 Garden City Books.

FWIW, I remember reading that in 1889 the War Department had over two million Civil War glass plate photographs, most of which were not well catalogued or captioned.
