TORONTO - There are still no leads in the case of an eastern Ontario scientist who disappeared without a trace last month, leaving his colleagues mystified. Lachlan Cranswick hasn't been seen since Jan. 18, when he left work at the National Research Council's Canadian Neutron Beam Centre in Chalk River, northwest of Ottawa.
His nearby Deep River house was reportedly left unlocked and his car was in the garage. His wallet, keys and passport have all been accounted for......

VERY interesting research, thank you again for all the links.
One thing that I am curious about is whether the TIMELINE/location of Lachlan coincides in ANY manner with a young Saudi pilot who is on the FBI's Most Wanted list.
I do, repeat: do realize that one of his last activities you mention was regarding CHRISTMAS lights, but I am not inferring that HE is any Islamist mole; as others have mentioned, perhpas he was kidnapped????
Anyway, here's some info for you from World Net Daily, which points out that dangerous terrorist Adnan al-Shukrimumah was in O N T A R I O where along with others he stole radioactive material which could be used in dirty bombs.

EXCERPT FROM WORLDNET DAILY
.....The individual who merits the distinction of the "America's most dangerous" fugitive is Adnan el-Shukrijumah, a diminutive, 30-year-old terrorist who stands at 5-foot-4 and weighs 140 pounds.
El-Shukrijumah represents the perfect "sleeper agent," since he speaks English without the slightest hint of an accent and possesses the uncanny abilities to blend into a crowd, to alter his looks, and to assume a multitude of identities......
== SNIP ==
....During this time, he managed to amass passports from Guyana, Trinidad, Saudi Arabia, Canada and the United States. He also began to adopt a number of aliases, including Abu Arifi, Jafar al-Tayyar, Jaafar At Yayyar, Ja'far al-Tayar, and Mohammed Sher Mohammed Khan (the name that appeared on his official FBI file). He traveled to Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, where he met with Ramzi Binalshibh, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and other members of the al-Qaida high command. He also spent considerable time within al-Qaeda camps in Afghanistan, where he received training in explosives and special operations.
A NUCLEAR MISSION IN CANADA
Following the success of 9-11, el-Shukrijumah became singled out by bin Laden and al-Zawahiri to spearhead the next great attack on America – a nuclear attack that would take place simultaneously in seven U.S. cities, leaving millions dead and the richest and most powerful nation on earth in ashes.
To prepare for this mission, el-Shukrijumah, along with fellow al-Qaida sleeper agents Anas al-Liby, Jaber A. Elbaneh, and Amer el-Matti, was sent to McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, a facility that boasted a five-megawatt nuclear research reactor, the largest reactor of any educational facility in Canada.
At McMaster, where they may have enrolled under aliases, el-Shukrijumah and his associates reportedly wasted no time in gaining access to the nuclear reactor and stealing more than 180 pounds of nuclear waste for the creation of radiological bombs.
Jane Johnson, a spokesperson for McMaster University, declined to comment on the stay of the al-Qaida operatives at the school. She insisted that such information was confidential.

I was shocked that we didn't learn about him until one month after he disappeared.
Evidentally at least one person in Canada shares my shock, someone at WebSleuths posted a link to this Canadian Craigslist entry:

Australian Canuck MISSING Google Cranswick (missing)
Date: 2010-02-09, 5:54PM EST
check out his homepage .. specifically this page ...
http://lachlan.bluehaze.com.au/other-links.html
... the guy is a HUGE Canuck eventhough he's from Australia .. his disappearance is meriting only local coverage - out in Ottawa .. hello?? The guy's a nuclear scientist. Earth to Canada - come in please - reality check. Lachlan CRANSWICK .. think Cran Apples and The Brunswick House .. CRANS WICK .. (Lachlan) .. Lachlan CRANSWICK .. repeat it three times ...and tell the Star and the SUN and CP24 to repeat it three times (too)
. Less limelight on the TRENTON creep and more undivided attention on this kid. He's a shining light in Materials Analysis. Not nuclear proliferation but rather Materials Analysis .. more in-line with CSI. Something Canada is good at - and now Buddy is MISSING!
And read his webpage .. what a well-grounded individual.
Additionally he's not afraid to draw attention to scams and black ops. (He probably raised more than a few hackles) which is what good Canadians are supposed to do .. we ain't afraid of shit! This guy is an unsung hero in a lot of ways - I think you'd agree having browsed that link.
All the more reason for us to do the "Good Fearless Canadian Thing" and broadcast his disappearance - far and wide. And not get hung-up over that Trenton Creep. It's more or less a dead issue till the trial anyhow .. meanwhile .. this 'kid' is still MISSING. Location: missing

Excellent connecting the dots Pennie, posting this at TM!
Is everyone positive that this man was NOT ill?
I happened to come across this small mobile webpage, it's from earlier this decade when he was at Columbia University in NYC, and I clicked on all the images -- this man has lost ALOT of hair in a short period of time; also, he does not look so very pale in the earlier shots.

He has been to different parts of the world as seen via his website & photographs. His works carries him to these places so he has importance. He vacationed in Cuba (1996) He has been "hacked", as well. A person he conversed with over email suggested he release the weapons of mass destruction to the perpetrators. He talked of hacking also taking place in the Far East. The WMD analogy seemed to be more Internet game related. They are geeks in correspondence. Fantasy.
His biggest worry was the evils in the future of nanotechnology. The money involved. The Nanotechnology scam. One friend wrote he had patented a nano-car.
I showed you the street the close proximity of homes, where neighbors know their neighbors or at least see them come and go. You can go up and down his street via the "pictures" part of his address. Even the neighbor had clothes hanging on the line. He did not seem to live in seclusion. No interviews with neighbors, just a basic press release, a Police posting with picture.
His site didn't branch off into any medical research which if ill would be of interest.
He just seemed to think science had become a scam! He saw research which proved nothing; but active, in the race for more money. Nanotechnology that could become sinister. Reflects into his favorite movie chooses as well. But then he did like Josie and the PussyCats!! ;)
The story of a missing scientist has really had no play here. I mentioned this to a resident of a town just over the border US and they knew nothing about it.
I just find it odd. I read months and years of his postings on his own active site under his name. It is quite a "highway" and/or personal Encyclopedia of knowledge.
Thanks for posting ..Could have gone under activism, news, current events; extended, crime not just chat.
Has anyone looked in the Deep River?

"Lachlan has always been a very frequent poster on this list and knows many of you personally. If you have had any contact with him recently, on Monday or especially at any point since Monday, please let us know. It does not appear that he had plans to leave the area, but if anybody knows anything that may be relevant to finding him, or especially of his plans for that week please let the police know.

Posted as was comparing other pictures.
I am sure authorities have scanned everyone in the above group pic as well.
Task force launches online petition
by Terry Myers
Local residents are being asked to put pen to paper - or at least, finger to keyboard - to support the future of the Chalk River Laboratories.
The Chalk River Employees Ad hoc TaskforcE (CREATE) has launched an online letter campaign to support its vision of Chalk River to be developed as a new national laboratory.
A key part of the group's recommendations would be the construction of a new multi-purpose research reactor.
No mention of missing scientist from said labs a month earlier. Perhaps is all classifed, but for basic Missing Person notice.

This webpage isn't static; it gets updated as new articles are posted.
Freerepublic's sister site in Canada currently has no postings up about the disappearance of nuclear scientist Lachlan Cranswick, according to this site search via Google.
His brother, medical field. Says when posting favorite links, and links brother--"important to me" when listed as favorites.
Good to see you out and about.
I wanted to be sure to bring to your attention that he was an active poster at a physics/chrystallography mail list.
There archives are accessible online; I haven't explored them, and I presume that they are waaaaaaaaay over my head.
