It's called a cabin today....
I'm trying to figure out what they are trying to prove or disprove

But when did they start worrying about window treatments?

It is a pity that any sort of cabin/hut that could have been created by H. erectus probably never survived the passage of time.
Huts don’t fossilize very well, though someday I hope they can find some evidence preserved like pompeii of the oldest home builders....

Why are we surprised whenever a new archeological find points to the intelligence of our forbears.
I’m not surprised. My ancestors were all brilliant. Mom told me.

Although popularly called “cave men”, humans at that time were house builders. It is just what they did in caves and drew on the walls in caves SURVIVED better. Remnants of their post holes for their movable houses are found all over the place.
The impulse to build goes deep within us. As my lovely and smart wife once said “the first things kids do when they play off in the woods is to build a ‘fort’”.

I suspect this was a luxury dwelling or a leader’s house. There are still places in the Third World today where one family lives in one room.

Before now, the only concrete proof for divided living spaces dated back to only 100,000 years ago. Ants build a bunch of chambers for different uses in their burrows.
