VIRUS SISZYD32.EXE KILLED MY FR COMPUTER
ME | 12-14-09 | Self

Posted on 12/14/2009 12:05:45 PM PST by Lady Jag

SISZYD32.exe has possibly killed my FR computer.

Yesterday it hit suddenly despite the anti-virus and other utilities I run to protect against such stuff.

The victim computer is one I only use for FR and the sites it cites. That is the only clue I have to offer as to where it came from. I run several computers off a network and my FR computer is the only victim.

This is the worst I have ever encountered and a search for it shows that it is very dangerous and it showed up only about a week ago (AFAICT).

From years of experience I knew what to do yet the virus blocked every action, not even allowing startup in safe mode.

MalwarBytes, Spyware Doctor, SpyHunter and another one or two I tried to run were able to find it yet were blocked and defeated by siszyd32.exe.

This is day 2 and the computer boots with a black screen.

WARNING! Update all your protection software including registry cleaner, et al.

HELP! Can anybody help me get my FR black screen computer back?

Try booting from a Knoppix CD?

Busting Back Into a Locked Up Machine

then use it to delete the infected files (if you know their names)

I’ve had my share of headaches from some of the viruses these buttholes have produced.

I’d like to feed these malicious little twerps feet first into a tree shredder.

I would use the removal tool offered by others in this thread. Once your present issue is resolved, I'd suggest a few prophylactic measures (didn't think you knew me that well, eh?;-)

Always have an anti-virus program running and scanning your internet activity, as I'm sure you must already. I use AVG Free (current version = 9.0). It is far less of a system hog than Symantec or Norton, and the base version is free and updated daily.

Download and use Spybot Search and Destroy - it has a database of over 150,000 malware programs and is effective in quarantining and removing them.

Use the Firefox web browser along with an add-on called "NoScript". It prevents any web-page you visit from loading scripts that might contain nasty little surprises. It is a bit of a pain in the ass, in that it will prevent page elements from loading, but a little icon at the bottom right of your screen will allow you to load some or all elements of a page, or to forbid them (and will remember your preferences). For example, it will not allow embedded Shockwave Flash Player elements to load unless you tell it to do so.

This entails a bit more work on your part, but prevents potential headaches. Other than that, stay away from porn sites (like the Huffington Post) and you should be safe.

I got something a few weeks back - my virus software caught it, but nothing I did would allow me to quarantined it or delete it. My virus software charges a fortune for help - seems they bill by the second - so I took the computer back to where it was when I bought in in Aug 07 .

“Factory” settings are built in - so I clicked on F11 every second or so after pushing the start button on the computer... kept clicking F11 until the option came up. Then followed the onscreen directions to restore computer to factory settings. That was the easy part.

Spent the next 8 hours updating two years worth of security patches, updates etc. Also had to reload all my own software. If you do this make sure you've got ALL your “names” and passwords etc. I bought my computer at COSTCO because they have unlimited free help if you buy the computer there - ( if it has to do with the computer - not a virus - but they did walk me through the first “go back to factory settings”....

And yeah - I know that stuff about "backup" ...

The author of every virus program should be identified, tracked down, dragged into the street and summarily executed.

Works for me...

At one point yesterday I had it disabled on the task manager but it continually turned itself on, much like Zero does to himself.

I use an imager called CloneGenius. It creates files of the current OS drive. I store those on an external USB drive.

If I need to restore, I run CloneGenius DVD. It restores the OS partition to the last backup.

CG has saved me several times. It takes about 40 minutes to create the OS partition backup (28 gb) and about the same about of time to restore. That sure beats having to reinstall Windows and programs from scratch.

It is now called Partition Genius.

Wrong link.

It isn't Partition Genius, it is Data Backup with Clone Genius integrated.

Wow - I’m not all that computer savvy but ... do you have a boot disk? I can’t see how a virus can stop you booting from the A-drive ....

Several years ago I had something happen, what God only knows. I had a BSOD and could not boot in any mode.

After weeks and weeks of searching, I happened upon this:

http://www.theminorityreportblog.com/story/aekowalski/2008/04/24/vista_0xc1f5_bug_fixed_with_linux_frenchmen
(it has links for more info)

and this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_OjCkbZyTw

Basically what I did was make an image Linux Rescue disk, (sysresccd http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page ) load it into the bad laptop and then was able to get into my Vista directories. It seemed like information overload, but once I was able to focus in, it was just a matter of following directions.

The image disk has a ton of options. I was able to save my files and reinstall vista. You might want to wipe it all out & reformat.

Gave that laptop to my son & bought a new one. (Seniority has its perks, LOL!) It has been working liking a charm for him ever since.
