Shortly after the first of the year (if not already), the Large Hadron Collider the most powerful particle accelerator ever built will smash protons together at record energies. If the Earth remains intact, doomsayers will once again have been falsified. Every time they forecast the demise of the planet, those prophets of Earthly annihilation prove themselves no more foresightful than mortgage bankers or phony psychics.

I don’t share your optimism regarding the LHC.

Btw, this is actually good evidence for black holes. Stars seen in radio waves at the core of our galaxy, orbiting something with about 4 million solar masses, based on their orbital periods. The only thing that would fit that description is a supermassive black hole.

Fractal imagery.

I know they are.
I’ve been living in one since Nov. 4, 2008.
Hell if I know how to get back home to reality.

Mostly because if it had created a mini black hole that destroyed 10,000 square miles of Texas, no one would have noticed. :) <<
That’s one rather extreme way to seal the border with mexico....

>> Look at the bright side - the collider may save us from global warming!
When our sun uses up it’s fuel billions of years from now, it will expand and the diameter of the sun will exceed the orbit of the Earth.
Now that’s what I call GLOBAL WARMING!! <<
And the sun will expand due to it converting from burning Hydrogen into Helium, to burning Helium into CARBON!!!
Oh the humanity!!! Carbon, why does thou hate us so much!

As I understand it they are attempting to create what is understood to be the overall conditions of which some believe the world was created. The actual idea of this is enough to alarm me, only because of the risks and unknowns which could be devastating.
The most recent attempt was an eyeopener for many tracking these developments. The sciece/mathematical people I’ve spoken with paint a pretty frightening picture of what could occur. Bottom line.. this has the potential of blowing up the earth either way they spin it.

From what I heard they have not fully powered up the collider. And have they not collected a petition with over 150 signatures of leading scientist warning of the danger of the collider.

IIRC, about one Earth-mass is required for an indefinitely-sustained black hole.Yeah, well that figures.
