Vanity: Something I saw recently on The History Channel alarmed me...

First of all, I am not much of a TV watcher of shows having to do with past blowhard philosophers and such, but my son is learning about planets at school now and we decided to watch The History Channel one night, just for the heck of it.

So, I was watching a program there about a week ago referring to Nostradamus' ('Nostra' for short) predictions, followed by a program regarding Leonardo DaVinci's predictions, and I was perplexed by something that Nostra "saw" in one of his many visions, which included visions of what or who would be causing chaos around the world in the next 400 years or so.

Nostra "saw" the one who became Napoleon Bonaparte, and saw the word "CORSICA" about 200 years before Napoleon was born. It just so happens that Napoleon was born in Corsica and was disastrous for France and Europe.

Later, the program shows that Nostra "saw" the word "HISTER", and a vision of a man from Europe wreaking chaos in the 20th Century. Experts believe "HISTER" was Hitler.

Next, Nostra "saw" the name MABUS. No one knows what MABUS is, and experts on the show said that MABUS has not yet happened on this planet. No one associated with the show could decipher what MABUS is.

But I immediately thought: MABUS stands for "MAHMOUD AHMADINEJAD BOMBS UNITED STATES". My family laughed at me, but I was dead serious.

Nostradomos (or whatever his name was) wrote hundreds of these quatrains, and very, very few could possibly have any shred of credence today. What you have is a bunch of nuts who find some kind of itty-bitty thread to tie these together.

If he was that full of foresight to pick “Hister,” then he should have gotten “Hitler.”

The guy was a hokey-pokey numbnuts who happens to have lots of people today all goofy about a half dozen or so “kinda-sorta-accurate-maybe” quatrains.

NOstradamus was a joke, interpreting his "visions" are a racket for making money.

The Mayan calender ends in 2012...now they were the real prophets, unlike that charlatan.

I suggest everyone dump all of their worldly goods...sell them to someone - Hey, I'll give you 10 cents on the dollar for them - and go into the mountains and meditate on the end of the Mayan calender. I'll do all of that pesky living the good life stuff for everyone. :)

A good question. My guess is that they have to dumb down to get viewers. This is an alarming trend. The National Geographic Channel has similar fare; e.g., shows devoted to the goings on at various tattoo parlors around the country. The decline of our culture continues apace.

Well two years ago every afternoon around 5:00 I would walk my dog, “TuTu”! It was fall and the sidewalks were covered with freshly falling acorns which crunched underneath my feet. They were brown and there were so many of them that I was inspired to do something with them. I envisioned possibly doing a piece of art with them, one layer thick across a canvas or something. I don't know it was like I was obsessed with the acorns. Almost like the acorns were an omen to me. It wasn't until now that I realized what I was seeing. The FUTURE! Of course without the pimp and prostitute attached.
