Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Excellent!
Sorry ‘bout the racing thing. I have an excuse this year - my little bother keeps ragging me about ‘beating me’ and I want to show the punk that he has years to go yet ;-p. He was saying he was going to be at 10k by Monday night and so... well...
I haven’t written much this year but I did do a little editing earlier, and I’m thinking that if I want to be serious about my writing, I really haven’t got a better chance than now. The baby isn’t really too bad an interruption, I don’t have to do that much otherwise, so I’m going to be serious about this. I’m going to do my little fantasy piece, work on a collaborative effort for a shared universe Talon and his buddies are doing, and edit up my 07 doc in the next few months and then... we’ll see.
My problem is that I have no clue where to really start with the writing submission for publication thing. And every time I try to read up on it, I get lost and intimidated and give up again.
Maybe some of us should make next year NoPubYe (or at least NoTryPubYe), and figure it out together. (Was going to abbreviate Hobbit Hole Novel Publishing Year...but that just...sounds weird.) We’ve talked about it before, but I don’t know that any of us really pursued it.
I also have a bunch of short stories kicking around. They pretty much all need major rewrites / editing / fleshing out, but at least a few would be OK with a lot of work. I think those might be easier to start with, publishing-wise.
Virginia is looking great!
Works for me! I know Talon’s and my space opera would go to Baen first try for publishing. My 07 fantasy... probably Tor or Daw for the first try. Some places have guidelines on their websites but I know what you mean about it being intimidating.
So, 2010 as the Year We Go For It. Cool.
It feels good to win.
Word count update.
It will feel even better if you gloat, too. Just remember the example set by the RATs.
Not to worry.
$#!* eating grin engaged.
Congrats man. You really deserved this one. And we all needed the glimer of hope.

Say, I've been meaning to ask you. What's the architect software you and Claire were using?
I'm thinking it might be good for Luke.
Since the Chief program I got for Clare was an academic license, it wasn't TOO spendy; about $250. When I went to buy a new one for myself, I got a real sticker shock. The single license is over $1500! So I got Chief Architect X1Lite, and while it still does the same basic stuff, it certainly doesn't have all the capabilities of the updated equivalent to Clare's program. But to update my X1Lite to X2, it would still cost over $1000, and I just can't justify that. If I were in a job that required the use of it, maybe, but not right now.
Thanks. We’ll look for a much less spendy version.
Got new blood work on Gypsy back today. Although her liver enzyme counts are still high, they had decreased enough that they could be read, whereas two months ago they were “off the charts”. She hasn’t developed anemia, and her protein levels are good. My western-medicine vet was more than a little stunned :)
So the lab results have shown the value of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in the treatment of chronic liver disease. I don’t know how long they will continue working but we pretty much have our “old” Gypsy back to enjoy for as long as we can.

Good Gypsy girl!
Word update.
I think I’m actually going to make it this year.
Nice! Caught right up.
We slacked yesterday and I wasted the lead I had built up. Now I am about 400 behind you.
