Is anybody watching the Cowboys game?

Posted on 09/20/2009 7:06:19 PM PDT by GnuHere

After all the hype about this stadium, how stupid is it that punts can (and have) hit the Jumbotron?

NBC has been endlessly self-promoting the stadium all week, since they are carrying the game, to the point of putting Al Roker up on a scaffold hanging from it. I'm guessing they conveniently forgot to cover this little controversy. And BTW, half of every NBC "news" and talk show is taken up with promotions and features on their other lame productions - it's kinda pathetic, really.

At any rate, I guess it will be raised for the U2 concert, at the band's expense, and perhaps stay up there, saving Jerry Jones $2 mil of pocket change. The height of it was signed off on by the NFL.

I think the Cowbows should have to forfeit if a punt hits the stupid scoreboard.

I wanted to hurl when NBC showed a shot of Jones’s wife and daughter and Al Michaels commented that a big role the whole Jones family played in designing the stadium. He used the analogy of them building their own house.

I remember a story back in the 1980s about Miami Dolphins punter Reggie Roby winning a bet with coach Don Shula. During practice the week before a game in the New Orleans Superdome he punted a ball straight up and hit the roof of the dome.

The cowboys kick the Indian’s *sses.

I bet there are some Washington fans that would beg to differ.

Why would a pro kicker do that?

They strive for "hang time" which increases monotonically with the height of the arc. It certainly appeared to be a legitimate punt, and his second try achieved the same height, but cleared the, ah, "structure" to one side.

I was laughing when NBC showed George W Bush sitting with John Madden.

I bet Keith Olberman's head was about to explode when he saw that.

Saw that also. I miss Big John. I don't care for Collingsworth. Oh, and I don't miss Bush. Glad he is gone.

What do you mean?
What is the Sports topic for?

I’ve had the game on and they were talking about having to watch the ball to see if it hits the board. I didn’t realize that was nefarious.

The screen weighs 1 million, 200,000 lbs.

According to this source, it doesn't way anywhere near that much. "Only" 170,000 lbs.

That's still pretty dadgum heavy! :-)

The NFL has specifications for how far above the filed things can be built. The scoreboard was built 5 feet above the specifications and was approved by the league.

Why should the Cowboys have to pay to have it raised, or raise it at all? It was placed specifically to be at optimal viewing range for the club seats, so raising it would mess up the whole design.

Just re-kick if someone hits it, big damn deal.

Thanks, maybe a lot of people don’t know that - I see only one comment on the game itself. It’s a good game!
