Here We Go!!!! My kid has swine flu...

Just got back from the doctor, and my 13 year old tested positive for swine flu.
THE GOVERNMENT has issued orders to all doctors to no longer treat patients with Tamiflu unless they are bad enough to be admitted to the hospital. They don't want to run out.
Thankfully, my doc gave it to her anyway, so I am hoping I don't have to worry about her getting that bad.
So, I will be giving periodic first hand accounts of the progression of this thing so that FReepers can hear it first hand, rather than relying on the media to tell you how it is.
Her throat started feeling scratchy on Wednesday evening, but she was fine. By 12:30 today, she had a fever of 102.8. She just took her first dose of Tamiflu, which by the way cost 120.00, and that was after our discount. They won't be making any money off of this, will they??!!!!!!
While I might seem lighthearted about this, I am worried. I have two younger children, and my own health problems as well. Being spooked by the media hasn't helped.
If you don't mind, any of you so inclined please say a little prayer for my girls.
We are all now quarantined.

Yep, got the same homemade concoction from my grandpa when I was a kid. Also got a shot of Jack Daniels with honey and lemon. Knocked me out cold and never coughed the whole night.

A health provider told me to put Vaseline in my nose...very little but coat the inside to prevent germs from going farther.
I don't know if it works but it wouldn't hurt to do it to yourself and the other kids.

No matter what, the flu is not fun to have. But on the bright side, now she’ll have many years of immunity against this strain.
Don’t let the Chicken Little Media scare you. Assuming she doesn’t have any health issues that would be magnified by the flu, she’ll be fine.

I home school my two youngest, so the only one who gets to miss school is the sick kid. Bummer for them...

Incubation is about 3-4 days after contact w/ the virus, but might be a bit longer... so you should know pretty quick if anyone else in the family was exposed.
I’m so sorry your 13 yr old is scared...how lousy, sick & scared. Poor kid. Poor Mom.
Saying a prayer that you’ll all weather this storm & by next week, this will be nothing more than a bad memory...

Our doctor told us that. You would think they could prescribe whatever they felt necessary, but Our Overlords know best.
Used to be the Tamiflu'ed everyone in the house, but no longer. Now we have to wait until we get sick in order to get it.

Plenty of prayers for all of you. Hope the Tamiflu helps, and that you’re all back to normal pdq.

Doc said the quarantine is mandatory. Probably another government memo, I suppose. I don't really care, I keep 'em all home when they are sick anyway. I don't want to make other people sick.

I won’t either, and neither will any of my kids. Didn’t do the chicken pox vaccine either.

My daughter and everyone in the family she was visiting refused to take the tamiflu. We are losing so much creditability.
To: mware
I read here the other day that some teachers in different states say that they were told not to tell parents in the school district when a kid was diagnosed. Have they done that there?
