Just got back from the doctor, and my 13 year old tested positive for swine flu.
THE GOVERNMENT has issued orders to all doctors to no longer treat patients with Tamiflu unless they are bad enough to be admitted to the hospital. They don't want to run out.
Thankfully, my doc gave it to her anyway, so I am hoping I don't have to worry about her getting that bad.
So, I will be giving periodic first hand accounts of the progression of this thing so that FReepers can hear it first hand, rather than relying on the media to tell you how it is.
Her throat started feeling scratchy on Wednesday evening, but she was fine. By 12:30 today, she had a fever of 102.8. She just took her first dose of Tamiflu, which by the way cost 120.00, and that was after our discount. They won't be making any money off of this, will they??!!!!!!
While I might seem lighthearted about this, I am worried. I have two younger children, and my own health problems as well. Being spooked by the media hasn't helped.
If you don't mind, any of you so inclined please say a little prayer for my girls.
We are all now quarantined.
prayers up
My teenager just got back from Chile. She had swine flu as well as the entire family. Chile prescribed tamiflu but no one in the family took it and it was over in just a few days.
In Chile they first hand see how much hype this flu has caused. The are coming our of winter and it ws not much worse than a normal flu season. They will not allow the vaccination in the country, they believe that the virus itself was man made.
Tamiflu? Yuck. She would of been better off without it.
Thank you.
I'm not sure what is going on here either but would venture to say it will become evident soon.
Just, damn!

Many health workers won’t take flu vaccine
.
I mean why not?
..yes, keep us informed and tell us how your school handles things so others can be prepared. Get well to all.
Dang! My thoughts are with youin’s.
My son, who is 34, had it 2 mos ago. He was given an anti-viral too. Doc told him he could go back to work in 3 days, but in the meantime to have NO contact with anybody.
Since you have other kiddles you may be have a long haul here. Makes me glad my kids are grown and my grandkids live 2000 miles away. :)
Prayers for you and your children. (My dad would sneak around mom and give me a Bourbon/Coke shot at bedtime, when I was sick. It would help “break” the fever. FWIW)
I just stole that pic through some very misty eyes
Apparently Chileans are very bright people and our media/President/idiots in charge think we are very gullible.
I'll let ya know what they tell us about the flu.
I hope she’s right, although I think that leaves me in a bit of a bind personally. I have auto-immune issues.
Thank you.
Thanks, I will do that.
We have a large migrant population; it could come from anywhere. I’ve been instructing her to use the hand sanitizer more frequently.
Prayers up for you and your girls. May the little one have a quick recovery.
Thanks for keeping us informed with an eyewitness report.
Please take the time to read through this thread for some possible treatments -- but be advised:
I am not a Medical Doctor, and I don't know if the OTC remedies in this thread are suitable for children, nor in what dose.
(I'm old and grey, and have lots of life insurance to put my cubs through college. So I'm allowed to try things.)
No idea. As far as I know, this has been pretty dormant in my area. Our doctor offices in a multi-building complex of physicians, and this is the first case they’ve seen.
Good to hear. Thanks.
