Buzz Aldrin, First Man (to Pee) on the Moon, Sounds Off
nationalgeographic ^ | July 16, 2009 | Anne Minard

Buzz Aldrin may not have been the first man on the moon, but he's got another historic first under his belt, so to speak: first person to pee on the moon.

Marking the 40th anniversary of the first manned moon landing this month, the U.S. astronaut reflects on his moonwalk, his embrace of Twitter, his hopes for the future—and that hallowed lunar leak, accomplished on the lander's ladder, into a special bag in his space suit.

"Everyone has their firsts on the moon, and that one hasn't been disputed by anybody," he said in the 2007 documentary In the Shadow of the Moon.

It's also undisputed that Aldrin was the second man to moonwalk—about 15 minutes after Neil Armstrong—though he's still a bit embarrassed about his fumbling attempt to reboard the Eagle lander.

"I jumped what I thought was going to be enough to get up to the bottom rung of the ladder, and I didn't jump hard enough the first time, so I had to go back and do it again," Aldrin told National Geographic News.

I’m having a hard time picturing the space suit equipment that would be needed to allow such a feat. This could turn into a huge technological hurdle to overcome. It could require a manhattan project like effort to solve it.

At least he didn't pee in Eagle's fuel tank. The damned thing would have had a miss in the engine the whole way back.

I don't believe he was the first! It happened on September 31, 1963 when Loopy Louie Hayes and Wallace "Suitcase" Jefferson landed on the moon!

But Buzz wasn’t able to spell his name in the Moondust in a legible fashion, so it didn’t really count! /s/ :-)

I remember one of the designers of the spacesuits remarking in an interview once that the 'connectors' for the technology that is under discussion came in three sizes:

Large
Extra Large
Gigantic

(something to that effect, anyway) They couldn't use "small", "medium", and "large" because none of the Astronauts would accept a small or medium (for whatever reason;)
