Mom, Boy Who Fled Cancer Treatment Found
cbsnews ^ | May 25, 2009

A woman and her 13-year-old son who were on the run from court-ordered cancer treatment for the boy have returned to Minnesota, the Brown County Sheriff's Office said Monday.

"Daniel Hauser and his mother have been returned to Minnesota," according to a news release. It did not reveal any additional details, but said there would be a news conference Monday evening.

The FBI's affidavit in support of an arrest warrant for Colleen alleges she fled the state Tuesday to avoid being prosecuted on two state counts of depriving another of custodial or parental rights in Brown County.

The FBI said the pair flew from Minnesota to Los Angeles last Tuesday on Sun Country Airlines. Investigators suspected they might have headed to one of a number of alternative cancer clinics in northern Mexico.

It is a different issue when dealing with cancer treatment.

"85% cure rate with Chemo. 0% cure rate with mama’s medicine man beliefs."

You've got that exactly backwards.

Chemo is nothing but the quickest way for the medical death industry to drain the insurance account of the victim.

I don't believe that is correct.

According to this article:

On Thursday, Anthony Hauser appeared before reporters asking his wife to call him and to come home. "If you're out there, please bring Danny home so we can decide as a family what Danny's treatment should be," he said.

The FBI's affidavit in support of an arrest warrant for Colleen alleges she fled the state to avoid being prosecuted on two state counts of depriving another of custodial or parental rights in Brown County. The "parental rights" refer to those of Brown County family services, which was granted custody of Daniel to get him to a pediatric oncologist.

what about the boy’s rights?

He said he didn't want the treatments any longer.

Personally I think both should be hanged.

The child needs to go into custodial care...time to bring back orphanages and care homes

It would be more like force feeding your children.

How much of your life do you want government to control?

>>It is a different issue when dealing with cancer treatment.

Not at all. What if it was an auto accident and the parents did not want a blood transfusion? A kidney transplant with a donor organ available?

Cancer is one of many terrible things that can happen to a child.

He’s only had one treatment and it was working. He’s a 13 year old boy who can’t even read, so he probably doesn’t understand the decision he’s making, he’s just going along with mom who says ‘Drink this and eat this and it’s gonna work’. She also claims he’s a shaman of some religion. If there was no chance of him actually recovering, I could understand but the recovery rate is excellent if the recommended chemo is done.

Me, too. I would have stronger opinions if I knew more... for example, is the treatment highly likely to cure, or only likely to postpone death at the cost of great discomfort. If it were highly probable it was a cure, I'm reluctantly with the treatment. Otherwise, I'd probably go for the family's right to make their own decisions.

From the original article, it sounded as if the boy made the decision not to have chemo anymore after the first treatment, hence the bald head. The state says he can't read and must be learning impaired and can't make his own decisions. I say the state needs to keep their face out of it. I have seen people, most recently a friends husband, who gave up chemo and were cured by other means.

Even so, a person has the right to choose how they are going to live or die and 13 is old enough to understand about death and the court sure as he** should stay out of it. I have government, all types, the original constitution laid out the best plan for government by the people but we let it get away from us and now we are being smothered by government regs, every where, every day, in every way.

>>Chemo is nothing but the quickest way for the medical death industry to drain the insurance account of the victim.<<

I have 3 friends that have been saved by chemo. The article (and other articles) point to a 90% survival rate.

Yet another subject you are completely ignorant of.

I’ll tell you how much. If my child is sick, and there is a treatment out there with a 95% efficacy rate, and I am so delusional that I want to feed my kids ionized greens instead, then please, for the love of God, step in and save my child’s life. Please don’t let me kill a child by denying them that treatment no matter how delusional I may be.

Correction to post 69, where is says, “I have government”, should read, “ I hate governments”...there you go.

I rarely side with the courts on issues like this.

In this case, mom is killing her child, the success rate is 95% or so with chemo.

Mom’s a psychowhackjob.

And I sure as hell never agree with Melas on anyhthing and yet I do on this.

Denying this boy life-saving treatment is no different than starving him to death. It is absolutely the states business to step in if a parent is killing a child by neglect.

There are a number of people who feel that there is an afterlife and that passing from this life to the other is not a significant event. This woman does not sound neglectful. She sounds determined to do it differently. Whether it works or not, she has a right to determine the path for her child.

They are getting much better at treating some cancers than they are others. My friend, a freeper, ruoflaw, just died last September. She wanted no treatment for her lung cancer but the doctor talked her into it. She gained a year and her family watched her die slowly. It was not what she wanted.

Well, I’ll bet there are millions of people who would disagree with you that “radiation treatment” isn’t all that bad.

family services

Oh, yeah, I would trust them since they are so good at what they do! /s

How many times have they released children to people who should be in prison themselves?

Most 13 year old’s can’t even decide which video game to play next. By definition 13 is too young to make these decisions. The fact he wants to abandon treatments after just one tells us he can’t make such decisions.

"According to the article, traditional treatment provides a 90% chance of survival. That is almost certain and better than the 5% chance of survival without it.
The State is stopping a murder of a child here, the same as my analogy of withholding food and drink."

Both typical deliberate lies of the type that you are so famous for here.

God helps those that help themselves. She is not helping anyone by running. We need to set an age for kids that once reached they can make the decision. I think this would appease both sides. Until that age you should always see a doctor because faith alone doesn’t heal. Isn’t that pretty much saying that all the other kids that died prob did because they didn’t pray enough for God to smite the cancer. 90% of children with this cancer are cured through chemotherapy. What is the % of kids that had full blown cancer and it went away by doing nothing or by praying? I doubt it reaches 90%. If a women can’t tend to her child I’m afraid I have to agree with govt on this one. We are not perfect so therefore how can this mother know without a shadow of a doubt she is right and how are we supposed to know if God’s meaning was literal. Why not err on the side of caution and let this boy live!
