Film director Ron Howard is very optimistic about the future of America, so long as the nation makes an adjustment, to fulfill his hope a more progressive nation will mean at a certain point I don't think we'll be so consumed with being the pre-eminent super-power and, you know, driven by sort of militarism and this need to export, you know, democracy. Howard's reasoning, on Friday night's Real Time with Bill Maher, came in response to Maher's formulation that America has seen better days. We're sort of in place that has made a lot of people nervous. Some people would say this country has jumped the shark.
Howard, who is out promoting 'Angels & Demons,' a sequel to 'The Da Vinci Code,' replied: I'm a very optimistic person and I don't want to feel like there isn't growth, but there needs to be an adjustment anyway. He proceeded to credit the insights he gained working on his movies with Europeans: I've actually spent a lot more time in Europe and working with crew members and actors and understanding how they live and how they think. Howard predicted our lives are going to be better because we're going to be more progressive. Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Maybe Opie will also help solve our country’s disgraceful inequity of wealth by giving 90% of his money away to less fortunate prople.......and encourage his famous pals to do likewise......
Great tagline material!
From Ron Howards Wikipedia article:
The family lives on a 35-acre (140,000 sq m.) estate in the exclusive gated community of Conyers Farm in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Ol’ Dopie has 35 acres at Conyers Farms. Dont know the size of his shack, but theres a nice home in the neighborhood on 4.75 acres up for sale-$16.5 million. Nice.
Oh yeah, Rosie ODonut lived there too. Her home was listed at 12 mil a few years ago.

BTW-last Nov. (D) Opie said in an interview he first voted in 1972-voted for Nixon, hoping he would end the Viet Nam war—Dopie then made a crack like “that didn’t work so well”
Nixon ended the VN war a few months after the 1972 election.
I think Dopie should go back to making his movies.....
Glenn Beck spent an hour yesterday on FNC warning about so-called ‘progressives’. Heed it, America.
That's what drove us to put men on the moon.
I know that Howard cherishes the space program and that time period, does he understand what created that moment in history?
It's not all bad being "the pre-eminent super-power", more often than not, we're the only ones spurred to action while the milque-toast Europeans are sipping tea at the UN.
A bald Opie is not a trustworthy Opie.
If the guy makes a good movie, who cares about his politics?
So, you think just because someone makes a "good movie", a pretend world, that we should just ignore his/her politics and think life is grand and they are great and wonderful. Just because they made a "great movie?" Oooookkkkaaayyy. Sure.
Damn right, well said, RetiredArmy..
Why should we support these leftists in Hollywood with our money?
If you must see one of their movies, fine, but please dont pay to see it in theaters..Rent it when it comes out or buy it used.

Not a dime to the fifth column.
Aunt Bea should have whooped Opie’s ass a little more often than she did.
“Not a dime to the fifth column.”
No dimes here. In fact not a red cent for the reds in charge of Follywood.
His brains fell out at the same rate as his hair did..
I’m thinking Opey lost his balls at the same time he lost his hair.
“Ain’t Bee, Ain’t Bee, why are we so powerful?”
A good argument against such jackasses opposed to the exportation of the democratic revolution is straightforward.
Freedom and liberty, despite what most people think, are not the main reason for democracy. They are just beneficial side effects. The best and most potent selling point of democracy is that it is enormously more efficient than any other form of *organization*.
Note that I didn’t say “government.” Government is such a complex form of democracy, that its best form of organization is the republican-democracy, or “representational” democracy form of democracy.
Organization, however, happens whenever even a small group of people assemble to accomplish a task. Even an illiterate and uneducated peasant can tell that democracy will generally give a much better result to a project than everybody just obeying someone who orders them what to do.
So for somebody like Ron Howard to decry exporting democracy, is tantamount to him declaring that tyranny, brutality and inefficiency are normal and natural for people who live under such regimes. He despises them because they are inferior, and do not deserve better lives.
An interesting example of the power and spread of democracy is now emerging in China. For many hundreds of years, rural peasants just did what they were told by their supervisors, and this is unchanged in their current communist party doctrines.
However, when television reached into even the most isolated parts of China, it unintentionally introduced a new idea. A few popular game shows, of all things, demonstrated it. A radical idea called “voting”.
Typically, when a communist party flunky showed up at a farm, to tell the farmers what to do, they would just meekly obey, no matter how ignorant the flunky’s directions. But suddenly, one farmer would chime in, “Why not do it another way?”
The flunky would be taken aback, and respond, “No. Do what I say.”
And the farmer would reply, “Let’s vote on it!”, often with the hearty approval of the other farmers.
Now, some flunkies would stomp their feet and demand everybody do things their way. But some of them were smart enough to let the farmers, though illiterate and uneducated, do it the *better* way.
And low and behold, the farmers knew their jobs better than the flunky did, and so they got a LOT better results from their labors.
And nothing succeeds like success. So pretty soon, the wiser flunkies were getting promoted, for their inspired guidance of his farmers, resulting in better production.
For its part, when the Chinese government realized what was going on, it immediately ordered an end to the broadcast of the game shows. But the democratic seed has been planted.
And it didn’t take the US military. And it didn’t matter what Ron Howard thinks, or how much he despises the people in the rest of the world, that he would prefer lived in ignorance, poverty, and inefficiency.
You are so right. Renting is like maybe $3.50 around here. As many people as you want can watch it. Say a family of four, can watch it for $3.50 instead of going to the theater and giving them $32.00 or so plus cost of goodies, which you also have cheaper at home. A night out at the movies for a family of four can cost $40-50 bucks now.
Thanks.
Looks good.
I think freedom and conservatism need some good images and PR.
Conservatives need to be realistic and pragmatic about the culture, media and universities.
We need to start fighting back and fighting as dirty and nasty as the left does. We’ve got to stop being nice. Otherwise we’ll all wind up being nice and dead.
Opie had balls?:)
