.
Yeah, I didn't care for the start, but, he pulled it together.
I see Megan has been afflicted with CAD’s (Carly's Arm Disease). Like Carly I spent most of time trying to figure out what is on her arm and not hearing what she is singing. I think if Megan would find her inner Josh Stone and stick to that she can go further but not sure where she is headed right now vocal style.
As for Flambe Adam, and I listen back to it a couple of times, the dude did some pretty amazing runs in that song. Vocally it was really good. Arrangement wise hmmm... not my favorite. I think he would have done better if he had picked a Travis Tritt song say "Homesick" Travis' version of The Atlanta Rhythm Section's hit, a Billy Ray Cyrus type of song, or a Little Feat song some of those have a good country flavor. Or do an acapella version of a comtempary country song would have been better so show his range. To many people expect the Johnny Cash version of that song so it is kind of radioactive if you do it any other way. Props to him for going out on a limb with that one.
Look I know he is not to popular on this forum but for me the bottom line on Adam is the guy that came out the first two weeks and owned the stage vocally and performance wise. Whoever tought him how to command a stage did a good job. But the main thing is he has the singing chops and knows how to use them. I see him more as a frontman for a band than a solo singer so if he should win this it would be interesting as to what he does with his career.
Even thou he enjoys putting chocolate deserts into luggage he commands the stage and in the first two weeks he is out singing and preforming the others IMHO. If they have Enya night he can go tranny dress as a woman and probably pull it off. He has the voice and the range for it.
Alexis did a good job. She could have done better because she has shown she knows how to use dynamics in music very effectively. She was a little off tonight but she rocked it last week and blew me away. If she sticks to that bluesy thing I would buy her cd if she had one.
But the guy that shined tonight was Matt. That dawg was Molten Hot!!!! Vocally I loved the sound he had. Very good arrangement!!!!
Allison is rock solid every week so far. She has her style and is sticking to it. I hope they do 80'rock nite would love to hear her do a Lita Ford, Pat Benatar song and have Matt or Alexis do a Stevie Ray Vaughn song.
Sorry for rambling my top 3 would be Matt, Allison, and Danny. Anoop did a good job tonight(I was thinking the same thing with the Pet Shop Boys lol).
Bottom 3 would be Megan, Scott, (Kris, and Michael tied). Loved the harmonica but compared to the others it was ok. Kris and Michael did good jobs but it was just OK compared to the rest.
Thanks...
Ed
IMO, his touring with “Wicked” and appearance in the upcoming film, “The Ten Commandments, The Musical” should render him ineligible for AI.
I don't know the orientation of Adam, some may make some comment on that, but in this case I don't care. I really think he has quality in his performance, and I definetly see he must have some kind of professional background in this sort of thing.
Actually, I am not so sure that he couldn't be American Idol. Let's see what he does next.
By the way, I also thought Lil Round did a great job as well, and again I can't connect with Simon's thought patterns on that.
The first thing I thought (even my daughter jumped and said it out loud), hey! That's Hannity's theme song! I guess that made it familiar and so make it even more enjoyable ... she did a great job, too.
Right now, though, my vote goes to Adam Lambert, black polish and all.
It’s really too bad that this is a self moderated thread.
This was the only Randy Travis song on the list:
Randy Travis - Forever And Ever Amen
Good point. :(
The guy just makes me feel great, and I have a case against Simon and I figured he would put him down but nope, even Simon said it was super.
Anoop Dog! You're da' man! That song is NOT an easy one to do, and you moved into it and then took it to the professional level mid-stream, and closed out just perfect. I am glad for you Dog!
Well, now that you mention it! :)
LOL There are probably others that would join them!
Why bother with all that? They never release actual numbers. They can get rid of whoever they want at any time. This show has no checks and balances.
>>That long, brown thing on the shoulder that smells is no ‘stick’.
Thanks for saying what I should have said...
In plain view, I (perhaps presumptuously on behalf of us folk who are here to have fun) extended my hand. It has been slapped away by a child who wants to sit in his corner and pout.
As I said, I started the AI threads as a jerk and, seeing the error of my ways, completely changed my attitude. That change gave me a chance to shimmy-shimmy-koko-bap with some doggone nice people. People who would never have been part of my life had I not seen my own jerkeosity.
Tammy was the best of us all (although s/johnny continues to be the best friend we all would like to have daily in R/L). Her patience and, dare I say, love, were an inspiration. To this day, I remember her and keep her candle-flame burning. As long as I live, she lives in my heart. I am sure that people on these threads who knew her pass her love along, as, I am sure, do those who knew Connie/ladyinred.
I was on “suspension” for 2 years so I didn’t get a chance to know Connie/LIR. But if Jonnie says she is a person of note, then she is solid in my book.
All this is just to let everyone know that it is possible to change; it is possible to have fun together; it is possible to love people you have never met; and it is possible to mourn while carrying the spirit of those we mourn and love aloft.
Sorry if this is a “downer” — I sort of hope it is an “upper!” Love, laugh, share and snark!
The world we share is a pretty darn good place and FR lets us share it together :)
And lets hope Archuelta II gets the boot! Followed by Screamtasia II
:)

Nah — we self-moderate pretty well.
Did you miss me? I was only gone for — 2 YEARS!!!
(lol)
What I’ve been thinking is...the religion threads have a setting where you can specify no insults, flames or denigration of people.
I wonder if Jonny can request that sort of stricture on this thread.
I mean, obviously none of us are here to debate or insult people, save one, why couldn’t we just specify this is a conversation-type of thread, like some of the religion threads, and set the rules that no insults or denigrations are allowed?
Ed
No insulting or personal attacks against other posters? Doubt it would work. Several of us have already asked and been ignored so, why would putting it in the title help? just asking.
They actually enforce it on the religion threads...if a thread is deemed devotional, no insults or denigration is allowed, the poster is banned.
I’m wondering if the same can be done for non-political “friendly” threads such as this.
Ed
The idol threads are self moderated, there is NO mod. Without a mod there is no banning. The religion forum has mods. Big difference. It just boils down to being extra careful who you reply to. This is one of those rare instances in which I wish there was an ‘ignore’ button.
Eric Burdon has an really interesting voice. He can go from soothing to growling in the same song and make it work.
Huh. Well, Jonny, I think this may be the first time you and I have had a significant disagreement over a singer. I have to say that while Adam’s “Ring of Fire” was indeed, IMHO, the “self-indulgent rubbish” that Simon called it, it was also beautifully crafted. Year after year, the Idol judges (especially Paula) yap about various singers’ falsettos and how great they are, when in point of fact they usually actually suck. But Adam’s falsetto is a work of art. He had absolute control over where he was taking it and what he wanted it to sound like. He had power and range, color and nuance. As a singer myself, I take off my hat to him for that amazing falsetto.
However, I also do not think that “Gay Elvis” has a prayer of winning this competition, because his over-the-top gay persona will alienate that vast swath of Middle America that he needs to vote for him. If I were advising Adam, I’d tell him to get a normal haircut, dye his hair back to a natural brown and get some clothes that don’t look like he swiped them from his sister’s date closet. (I LOVED retrokitten’s comment that he looked “high maintenance!” Oh so true.) I expect to see him be a big hit on Broadway one of these days. Maybe in the revival of Phantom.
A few other random thoughts:
Lil Rounds: What a mediocre perfomance, singing-wise. I still do not get what makes the judges gaga about her. Her voice sounds like that of a thousand other R&B singers. (And would it be declasse’ of me to comment on the size of that “trunk”? Pretty dress tonight, though.)
What is it about Blind Guy that makes me think “John Denver”? I just do not get him either. He is so lackluster to me that I can’t even remember his name.
Danny Gokey: Pretty good performance (quite good in the second half), and I quite like his voice, but he looked like he was ready to go on safari. Or to the Arctic. Or to have the sleeves tied behind his back. Cute glasses; otherwise desperately needs fashion advice.
Megan Tattoo: Bless her heart, I’d like to hear her sing when she is well. Stunningly beautiful girl. Too “quirky” to win the whole caboodle, though. What is with these odd songs she keeps choosing?
Allison Iraheta: Good performance, but I don’t see her going the distance in this contest. I wish she’d get her hair out of her eyes — not because it is a poor fashion choice, but because it makes it difficult for the audience to relate to her when they can’t see her eyes.
And am I missing something about Matt Giraud? I find him quite boring, singing-wise. Can someone put me straight as to what is special about his singing?
Anyone I left out bored me so much I can’t even remember them. Good lord, I’m getting notional! LOL!
Oh, and tonight, one of my two-year-old twins (just turned 2 yesterday!) ran over to the TV as soon as he saw Seacrest yapping, and said, “Idow! Idow!” So another Idol generation is born! LOL!
