On thing we have to remember is that Kelly has had several more years of success before Carrie.Spoken like a fan of Carrie's.
As for Fantasia, Jennifer and the others, it helps to remember that not all charts are created equal. Most of the #1's, aside from Kelly and Carrie, have been on the more minor charts. Almost all of them, again other than Kelly and Carrie, hit their #1's in the immediate aftermath of the season they were on AI. Few have had any continued success. Daughtry's second album is due out this summer, so that will give us a sense of what his staying power is going to be.

Sometimes those “and the rest” montages demonstrate some pretty good talent.
Has anyone ever gone back to see if any of the winners — or even final 8’s — of prior years started “and the rest?”
From what I have been able to determine, they all got their moments in front of the judges...
