Just came back from Crystal Mountain... sunny skies, temperatures on the 60s at the summit. We were shedding clothes like crazy.
Then we get down to Enumclaw and descend into a fogbank. Weird...

After reading how most water landings go, I am doubly impressed with "Sully!"
And I always check where the exits are and how to operate them.
I tend to forget about the life vests but on long over-ocean hauls it would hardly make a difference. Hypothermia vs. drowning, I guess.

Been fogbank all day. It started to clear a little late morning but then settled in again. House here is in fairly thick fog — if it gets much colder we could be looking at freezing fog and I *hate* that stuff!

I just read yesterday's "stimulus" bill, most of its 258 pages. Pretty depressing stuff, *especially* all the spending on "deferred maintenance."
Sully for President. At least with him if we're going to crash-land, we'll do it cleanly.

Especially impressive considering they had just cleared the George Washington bridge, and both of his engines were out.
He has experience as a glider pilot, and his own company deals with “risk management”.
The man to have at the controls, no doubt!

Some question about "out." I read one report that said "reduced power," not enough to stay aloft. That might fit with a loss of some compressor blades giving him a little more margin than dead engines.
OTOH I was working at a NASA wind-tunnel facility when a bolt came loose from a model and took off down the tunnel. A lot more energy involved; the blades blew out through the wall and were found up to several block away, buried deep in the concrete roads.
Wind-tunnel disasters can be so fun. The supersonic (Mach 10+) facility across the street blew up one night. It was a blow-down tunnel using helium and superheated ceramic "eggs" (and aye loud!). I came in one morning and saw burned lawn and shrubbery, with oval white eggs everywhere in the middle of the burns...
I was on an international flight years ago that had a similar engine blowout five minutes into the flight: three engine craft, the middle engine blew and folks on the ground reported fire from the engine. The airframe took a major THUMP! It was several minutes before the captain advised we'd lost an engine, were dumping fuel to get down to landing weight so we could land back at the airport. (LoM and I ended up interviewed on TV and by the papers on that one -- we're not as shy as we look. *\;-)

Cold again in Alabama tonight... radar shows some very faint snow, but I doubt it is reaching the ground, just to dry.

They permit snow in Alabama? *\;-) (I’m even surprised it’s that cold, but then my family had left that part of the South before I was born so I have little familiarity with it. Just Brigg’s Five Corners MS in June...)

Good morning. 12 degrees in the county seat, not as cold as forecast. Tomorrow it says a 50% chance of sleet.

I’ve been thinking about reprising my character in an otherwise unrelated short story, “Dreamtime Dancing”.

The only reason you chose that title was because “Dirty Dancing” was already taken, right?

It was down to 37 this morning. More to come, I’m sure.
Although the sun is shining in a clear sky, again, I’m not sure I’ll venture out,
