Good evening. As Arctic temps and snow grip much of the country, I pray for all those who travel and have to spend time outside.
Also remember the many affected by the economic woes this season...anecdotal stories we're all hearing bring the statistics to life, and add a somber theme to the time which is usually so joyful.
I missed it too. It was posted last TUESDAY at the end of the previous weekend’s thread. I don’t normally check old threads but (I confess) I did a search on Rave’s screen name this AM just to see if he was popped up at all.
Rave, I miss you so much.
DARLING!
Wishing you , your wife, family and friends a Merry Christmas.
Got plans?
Look at 101! Just look at that beautiful post!
Listening to Jay Nordlinger on Bennett's show. Bit, do you read his Impromptus?? I love those pieces. Natch, he's talking Christmas music...
Yay!
Best 101 I ever saw!
OOOXXX
20 miles NE of you & no pretty sunrise here! (just Winter’s typical Grey & dreary norm!)
But do have pretty music playing & will get Toby & Josy out with friend John & his 2 dogs before the next blast hits us later today
Hope all travelers are safe in the days ahead. Mom & I will be home with food in fridge & and holiday spirit despite the cold & snow
Hey Raven! Great to see your post, thanks for bringing it forward on this thread Jem. I’d missed it too.
Good morning all. Daughter to arrive today, I must get some things accomplished. Thank goodness the shopping and groceries etc. are completed. Maybe a few errands today or tomorrow.
Have a great day everybody.
Get a load of this:

Obama to Use Lincoln Bible at Swearing-In [Byron York]
No one, besides Lincoln, has ever done that. From the transition office:
On January 20th, President-elect Barack Obama will take the oath of office using the same Bible upon which President Lincoln was sworn in at his first inauguration. The Bible is currently part of the collections of the Library of Congress. Though there is no constitutional requirement for the use of a Bible during the swearing-in, Presidents have traditionally used Bibles for the ceremony, choosing a volume with personal or historical significance. President-elect Obama will be the first President sworn in using the Lincoln Bible since its initial use in 1861.
"President-elect Obama is deeply honored that the Library of Congress has made the Lincoln Bible available for use during his swearing-in," said Presidential Inaugural Committee Executive Director Emmett Beliveau. "The President-elect is committed to holding an Inauguration that celebrates America's unity, and the use of this historic Bible will provide a powerful connection to our common past and common heritage."
The Senate has a useful website with information about inaugurations. Looking over it, the great majority of presidents in the last century have used family Bibles for their swearing-in. The ones who didn't Jimmy Carter and Warren G. Harding chose a Bible used by George Washington. Dwight Eisenhower, in his first inauguration, used the Washington Bible but also his own Bible from West Point. (Just as there's no requirement you use a Bible, there's no requirement that it has to be just one Bible, although in his second inauguration Eisenhower used only the West Point Bible.)
Obviously, I buried the lead. It should have been "Obama Joins Distinguished Predecessors Harding and Carter in Choosing Bible Used By A Previous President." (OK, Eisenhower too, but just half.)

What an ego....Well, if he wants to push this comparison...is O going to lead 1/2 the country in a Civil War?? What idiots I guess he thinks we are...
I was just thinking that today is the day to give the house a good vacumming and dusting before the celebration begins. The poinsettia on the hearth needs water and I must iron the tablecoth and napkins.
I find it rather ironic that this person uses the memory of Lincoln for his presidency. Lincoln did not like black people. Lincoln wanted to round ‘em all up and ship ‘em back to Africa. His freeing the slaves didn’t happen until half-way through the war, was a political move forced upon him by Freemont in Missouri and only freed the slaves in the rebelling states. It was not a blanket emancipation. Lincoln was one of the most racist and obviously divisive presidents we’ve had.
Come to think of it, this president is rather racist, too.
Obama trying to ride the coattails (so to speak) of Lincoln. What a laugh.
Ding Dong will need to attempt to link himself to anything and everything honorable, because when it comes to the corruption and graft that’s going to surface during his tenure.....we ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
That is news to me. Good morning!
Mornin’ snarlin.
Morning PB - I was in a Toys R Us yesterday and was surprised at a half-empty store. I wondered if they are closing the store after Christmas, so not re-ordering inventory, or are just down-sizing? Something is going on.
Mervyn’s is on life-support during their complete closure.
Not that I shop at either one much, but it’s sad. Life is changing.
Lincoln, it is true placed paramount importance on preserving the union, or after the war began...to reestablishing it, so there is a certain element of expediency to the Emancipation Proclamation AND its implementation. Fremont was only a part of it.
But Lincoln was no extreme racist. He was both IN his times and ABOVE them in regards to the question of race.
I realize you may have more to add on this, & that's fine, but I won't be able to respond so will let this be my last words on the matter, except to say I've read much on the subject over the years.
Oh and IMO, the most impressive President was our first: Washington.
