Swiss watch found in 400-year-old tomb

Archeologists in China are baffled after finding a tiny Swiss watch in a 400-year-old tomb.

The watch ring was discovered as archeologists were making a documentary with two journalists from Shangsi town.

"When we tried to remove the soil wrapped around the coffin, a piece of rock suddenly dropped off and hit the ground with a metallic sound,? said Jiang Yanyu, former curator of the Guangxi Autonomous Region Museum.

"We picked up the object, and found it was a ring. After removing the covering soil and examining it further, we were shocked to see it was a watch."

The time was stopped at 10:06am, and on the back was engraved the word "Swiss", reports the People's Daily.

Local experts say they are confused as they believe the tomb had been undisturbed since it was created during the Ming dynasty 400 years ago.

They have suspended the dig and are waiting for experts to arrive from Beijing and help them unravel the mystery.

I thought I read that they also found an 8-track of the “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack.

From that point of view it looks like it could be used as a ring, brooch or necklace

How does when it stopped have any bearing on anything?!

1) If the watch has batteries, the watch stopped when the battery wore out based on when it was replaced.....an unknown.

2) If the watch has a winding mechanism, it stopped based on when it was last wound....an unknown.

3) If the watch has a kinetic mechanism, it stopped based on when it stopped moving.....an unknown.

Ahhh! Pack Rats, I know them well. We have them by the thousands on my place. They steal any thing shiny they can find. I do allot of quail hunting on my place and sometimes empty shotguns shells don't get picked up. If you don't pick it up a pack rat will, they love shiny brass hulls. Had a fire on my place 3 years ago and several nests got burnt out. I found pockets in the nests where they're treasures were stored. Pieces of glass, foil, bolts, shotgun brass, busted pair of sun-glass’s, aluminum tabs, bottle caps and one had a whole Shlitz can in it. Every now and then I invite a couple of buddies over and we have a rat shoot. Just put a pile of sweet-feed by the shed and under the guard light. Sit on the back porch and shoot rats all night. We take it serious! My Rat Rig in an Anshutz 22 topped with 3x9 Zeiss Conguest scope. It's about 50 yards to the feed pile.

I'm sure some where, at some time, somebodies eaten a Pack Rat. It certainly wasn't me. But my cats seem to be fond of them! Old GW is a pro at catching Pack rats. He'll sit on the propane tank and “jack them” when they go by, on the way to the feed shed. I've seen him catch full grown cotton tails.

um...it’s an analog watch. The article states that the watch stopped at 10:06AM. I’ve not seen an analog watch that tells whether it is morning or evening. That’s why I wondered how they knew it was 10:06AM.

I wasn’t seriously concerned about when the watch stopped functioning.
