Good evening and welcome to the new week's thread...
P-E Obama is expected to announce his "Economic Team" today - Monday, and - hold on to your wallets - heavy spending plans to "boost" the sagging economy.
Meanwhile rumors swirl around the kind of deal he has struck with Hillary about the State Dept. job.
On all fronts...we shall see...
Happy Thanksgiving to you, too, Bit!
Potatoes, butternut squash, rutababa and cabbage salad are prepared. I will cook the corn and peas about 15 minutes before the turkey comes out of the roaster. Rolls will be put in the oven about the same time.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, ML.
Back at you Lysie - yummmmm on your menu. We’re going to our DIL’s father and his wife’s (gets sooo complicated) home around 3 for eats.
I’m taking yams and cranberries (no one will admit liking them but me, but FUNNY how everyone enjoys them!!!)
And a diabetic pie. Chocolate puddin’ pie.
So happy I don’t have to cook this year that I’ll just sit back and enjoy it all.
We are waiting on those in the family who are chronomically challenged. I planned for that so it is no big deal.
We have crab thingees, cucumber sandwiches, stuffed mushrooms and a cheese ball for hor d’eorves (or whatever). Then we’ll have turkey, ham, stuffing, dressing, gravy, smashed potatoes, knopfli, salad, cranberry relish, cranberry sauce, rolls, and green beans for dinner.
Then, we’ll sing and play carols. There are about 10 pieces in our ensamble’s repertoire.
Dessert will be tonight with red velvet cake, pumpkin pie and another type of pie.
We won’t finish until late.
I have to have cranberries on the table. But I don’t eat them. They’re decoration.
You and your family are in my prayers. Please check in and let us know how your Thanksgiving has been.
BBL
just passin’ thru
Pushing us over the hump. The ensamble is going over their music now and I’m about to call in friends for a concert.
And we had more food than we could POSSIBLY eat.
We haven’t touched the desserts yet. We’ll be going into the dark hours.
I am missing you especially.
I miss you both!!
Only on ATRW would I ever see smashed potatoes. LOL!
LOL! I wondered if anyone would catch that.
Right now the group is listening to the youtube screeching version of O Holy Night. Hilarious.
The instruments are put away. We need to work on balance but overall it wasn’t bad for sight-reading.
((((((Jem))))))
We received a call yesterday from a frantic event coordinator. Her entertainment for a community holiday show canceled on her and she was frantically looking for a replacement.
Long story short, we are now doing an additional show on Dec. 6th, and have a week to put together a Christmas show.
This is going to be interesting.
I have no doubt that your group will rise to the occassion and you will do splendidly.
My high school band director gave me a piece of advice which I have applied in many situations. When performing (or any public situation), act like you own the place. If you make an error, keep going. Act as if you intended to do it. Chances are no one else will even notice. Then, during practice later on, work toward improvement. But in public, act as if everything is fine. Then, usually, it will be.
You’ll do well.
I’m heading to bed now. I am tired.
Great advice Jem. We’ve already given ourselves permission to have word sheets, there simply isn’t enough time or available gray matter to learn the words and verses to that many new songs in so short a time.
(note to self: enlarge the type on those word sheets!)
I’m off to bed too, ‘night all.
