During the cold war, JFK claimed to have gone to the moon. He got congress to spend billions on his moon landing and pretended america landed there, convincing congress to give him billions, the fakeness of the landing is well documented.
It seems to me that this liberal moneybags, that he took these billions for personal use, or maybe gave them to the USSR (we all know he was soft on communism)
Perhaps his death was similarly staged in order to keep his billions or keep congress of his case.
I wonder if under an obama administration we will see more moon landings.
Yah. I put on the thermals today (what I wore cycle-commuting in winter), plus jeans & boots because we were going to have the Greening of the Church today and I wanted to be warm. But we had too few people, so my discomfort in the service was for nothing. At least I could wear the cassock & surplice instead of the (hot) alb.
Way to go!
DP just dropped a glass of wine, and now Ash and the catz are trying to “help.” And I took my hymnal to church and left it last week, and I can’t find a psalm setting for the Christmas Eve Mass. And this head cold is very inconvenient!
I'll disagree with that in this regard; many of the architectural ideas then extant were simply stylish without regard to function, or held to an incorrect notion about healthy environments.
Neither were they very well insulated.
Let's face it, you can live comfortably in almost any climate with a modicum of energy input and a very well-insulated house, (see gorush house above). In fact, I've said it before, that the only difference, based on your latitude, is the amount of sunlight you want to have enter, and the amount of overhang of your roof over the windows.
However, to your point, I recall my great-aunt's house, where she had a pitcher pump right by the sink in the kitchen, and she also had a galvanized bored-well bucket arrangement on the porch.
They kept a pail of fresh-drawn well-water on a counter, with a dipper for getting a cool drink. Nothing ever tasted better or was more refreshing.
Most of the rest of the appeal of that house lies in subtle things. I still like the sound of a squeaky screen door spring, and the slam it makes when you let it go. That's a statement that says, not "I'm outta here!" but "Look out World! Here I come!"

At least all the byos are in bed. I think I’m going to cheat on the Psalm and do “All the ends of the earth have seen the power of God,” instead of “Forever I will sing the goodness of the LORD.” I know the first one and can do it, if necessary, with just viola accompaniment!
That beats the one I would have chosen.
I’m very fond of “Have mercy on us, O God,” but it’s not Christmas-y.
Yup, Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) w/ air to air heat exchangers solved all of the previous bug-a-boos of earth sheltering. Add light tubes, opening sky lights and you’re good to go. We heat two buildings, home and shop, and the garage, maybe 4000 sq. ft. total, cooling and hot water included, for under $700 in central Wisc.

How are you “cheating on the Psalm”? Is the one you wanted appointed in a lectionary?
One thing I'm not clear on; are you using heat pumps? It might be overkill with the numbers you show, but efficiency is still efficiency.
I've been thinking that some kind of passive heat storage, such as a small indoor pond to gather sunshine, or even an indoor swimming pool, could be beneficially added to the heat storage and transfer system. That one might enjoy other uses of it is a mere benefit.
The one I’m NOT doing is the one specified in the lectionary for the particular Mass we’re playing, “Vigil of Christmas.” The other one is used in the other Christmas Masses: “Evening,” “Midnight,” and “Morning.”
If I had a convenient Gregorian Chant arrangement (in English) of “Forever I Will Sing,” I’d do it with a plain piano-melody backup, but I don’t even know where to start looking in the parish’s music stores. DP found a piano-guitar-vocal score for “Mary, Did You Know?” lying on a table this morning, and we’re going to do that for time-filling music before Mass, along with a few other American favorites. It’s written for alto, so I can sing it even if I can’t feel the top half of my head.
The heat is all tubes in slab/tiled, the cooling is forced air through the ventilation system. We have a 3.5 ton heat pump with a 5 ton closed loop field. There is a fireplace, used for atmosphere or when it gets 20 below. We’re planning a wind powered battery system to power the air to air heat exchanger/ventilation system.
If it is old enough you might find it on the internet. Maybe a church music site.
It’s very old, but I haven’t been having good luck finding free liturgical music arrangements. We can usually find lyrics, but that’s not much help. And it’s too late to order something. We’ll just punt!
