Good Bye, Mr. Bill, my feline friend.

Posted on 10/21/2008 12:08:50 PM PDT by Jay Thomas

Mr. Bill was given to me by my fiance about 20 years ago. He's a black/grey tiger shorthair with a healthy weight of 12 pounds.

The past week was very bad for him and so I will take him to the vet this evening and say good-bye.

He was the first cat my wife and I shared together and he's been with us during out whole marriage. He lived a long and healthy life until the past month where things steadily went downhill, accelerating rapidly the past week.

He was named after the SNL character of old. Seemed I was always saying "Oh no, Mr. Bill!!!"

I’m so sorry Jay.

Enjoy the memories of all the love you shared, and it will help you tonight.

*HUGS*

My heart goes out to you...we lost our sweet “puppy” Leah (Rottie-Aussie mix) at 17 years old last May 6.
Putting her down was the most heart-rendering thing I have ever been through. Profound sense of loss.

I’m really sorry for your loss. The writer who said that this is the price we pay for for their love and companionship said it perfectly. I’m another believer in Rainbow Bridge, and when I get there, a lifetime of dogs - Ginger, Hildy, Geraldine, Strider, Ethan, Ash, Jack, Roxy and the Duffmeister will all be waiting for me. I don’t stand a chance of getting past the pearly gates un-slobbered.

Sorry for your loss JT

I lost my Buddy AKA Flash to a dog incident (a Big all White Blue Eyed cat) he was the neatest friend I’ve had; even counting my dog. I get teary when I remember him.
He was ran over twice and lived thru it: once by the school bus. The school bus incident broke his 13” tail and his nose. He drug that broken tail around for three weeks. As we were all sitting on the front porch one afternoon I told my wife “Take Flash in tomorow and get that tail cut off” Flash never even looked up but he moved the end of his tail just a flick. We laughed and both said at the same time “nevermind”.

And just before Flash died we had to put down my wifes beloved Kanga after 22 years it is sad.

We know how you feel.

How sorry I am to hear your news...I understand how you feel...we had to put our cat of 11 years down a couple months ago. Was so hard for me; I’d not done that before...I’ve heard it said the best way to honor the memory of your precious pet is to get another....who knows.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

God bless you, my FRiend. I hope you can see your way to rescuing another dear friend from the Humane Society. So many are waiting...

My condolences to you as well.

It hasn’t been so long since my Black Lab, Brittany passed.

It still hurts and it has been 5 years.

Peace be with you at this time. We had to put our cat down last year and we wanted to bury him on our property so I built a very nice casket for him. I’m no carpenter but I swear I never cut a straighter board in my life.

I’m so sorry for your loss Jay. My two guys, Emory and Henry, send you and your wife sand paper kisses. It is never easy losing furry companions.

Sorry for your loss. You will ache over the loss of your friend. Take comfort in the fact that the pain you feel is pain that you spared him. I lost my shepherd Timber last year. To the surprise of many, he was always gentle and kind to cats, and tonight he's with Mr. Bill, waiting for us.

The problem with beloved pets is that they have a tendency to earn a spot in heaven long before we do.

Sincerest condolences from my heart to your family. I know you will always carry Mr. Bill inside you, but it will be hard not having him in your lap when you need him. May your memories bring much comfort in the days to come.

This is just breaking my heart. We have a cat that is around 13 and she brings us so much joy, so many laughs. She curls up next to any of us when we’re sick. She sleeps with my 12 year old and she’s at the steps and waiting like clockwork. When one of the kids cries, she’s there in a heartbeat rubbing up against them. She’s one in a million and none of us would trade her for a million dollars. So in that sense...I know. The love is unconditional.

I don’t think I can find words for you right now that will comfort you. Putting our beloved pets down is just down right painful. The tears will come.

I will say a prayer for you. And another prayer that I always say — hoping that we’ll see them again, too, on the other side of life.

I’m so very sorry.
