Sudden..We were on vacation out of the country..He was 48 and had had chest pain during the day which he ignored..We were on vacation..after all. It left us all in terrible shock and grief...I felt like I was trying to swim through mud just to get up and operate for a very, very long time.
Half of me was gone.

Windows Vulnerability (fom my bro Duane who does IT work)
This is going to be a bad storm. When you are not using your computer, you should take it offline. We have a pretty high grade Intrusion Detection System at my office and we see attacks that you would not see on the home protection systems. The next three weeks have the potential to be real bad for anyone that uses a computer; Until the big servers get all patched up. Hope your broken wrist heals fast and doesn't give you much pain. //gy

My Odyssey
- broke wrist yesterday about 3 PM
- Colles fracture(actually Ulna but the call it a wrist break) above hand. Bone separated
- Home at about 11 - friends Bill B & John W helped me with transport /dogs
- no cut/surgery
- PTL
- a shot from hell into the bone & two physicians traction it into place
- hard cast
- vicodin for pain
Transported from Akron City to St Thomas where the orth unit is. Started at Akron City
The orth surgeon very delightful man who looks like Clive Owen & is from country of Macedonia..He is into natural healing etc & completely was supportive of my medical concerns/phobia as that is how he was raised. He was rather a black sheep to leave his country & become a traditional doc.
He told me to expect breaks as all "skinny white women have osteoporosis.". I have told friends that although I treat all conditions myself, I WOULD seek medical care if I broke something. And there I was at the mercy of physicians that looked to be 15!
I was originally told it would require surgery & a pin. The surgery - well, I trust skill level of surgeons - residents included - but know that staph infections that follow are a nightmare & quite prevalent so I felt a lot of answered prayers in the treatment chosen & the location of the break. It was my left hand. Right hand or either leg/foot would be very rough with the pets, home, yard & mom to take care of. This will be bad enough.
One of the most disconcerting things was the look of horror on faces of medical people (nurses, not docs), It was quite a deformed & swollen & black.
How did it happen? Slipped on something in the river bed (black mold, leaves?) & fell backwards into river. And I mean INTO the River - soaked to bone.. Hair, clothes, in boots etc. I knew immediately it was broken & the pain was intense the appearance grotesque.
We were a long way from my van. A couple miles -- 3 or 4 -- thru the river(mega rocks, rapids. waterfalls) & then another mile + thru the woods & up/down the hills. I was with friend John & his 2 dogs. Pat was not along & a good thing as she does not handle things like this well & a hysterical/frantic presence was the last thing needed. I just held the hand with my other like a sling would support.
Decided I could drive the couple miles home & get mom some food not knowing how long I would be & Bill came & picked me up to begin the medical experience
So many people tell me I am crazy to do the rugged hikes as I "may get hurt" Of course this is always an awareness for people like me... but at my age in the 6th decade of life this is the first injury as a result of an outing & I think it is a pretty good record & it will not deter me from future outings that I love so much. The day was glorious, the air crisp/refreshing & I took about 500 pix! Including the last pix I took prior to falling. This part of river bed is in tight gorge with hundreds of feet to top. In the foreground you can see the shale that composes much of the river bed
Right now I will not be as able to do things for 2 months & it is a bit of a damper on the class HS reunion (Parma) this weekend. The doc said no problem with attending & having fun -- But to not get in a fist fight. Well, that wasn't too high on my list of things to do with my former classmates
I wont be writing much, This has taken forever to pick out with one finger

"Those howls are bone chilling"When I first moved to AZ, I thought the same thing, JC - but after a while, you get used to it. Coyotes know not to mess with 'big people'. Now, little yorkies - that's another story.

Oh, Meg - a broken toe is about the only break that is ridiculed. Tell someone you have a broken toe, and sympathy becomes null and void.
It is painful - when I broke my little toe, it was laying along the side of my foot The doc just cracked it back into position, taped it, and warned me of the jokes about to come. He was right.

I have never heas a howl here..He just trots by the edge of my patio..came on it once to check things out..I don’t put catfood out until a raccoon actually is seen..I do leave sunflower seeds out.I am glad I have indoor cats.
A coyote would love yorkies and kittens for breakfast.
