Oh, Meg - a broken toe is about the only break that is ridiculed. Tell someone you have a broken toe, and sympathy becomes null and void.
It is painful - when I broke my little toe, it was laying along the side of my foot The doc just cracked it back into position, taped it, and warned me of the jokes about to come. He was right.
My husband was the stoic tyoe..and the pain was evident in his face..I have only sprained a toe and that hurt bad enough!
You are right..People don’t give much sympathy ..unless they have experiencd it.
Well, talking about broken bones....I broke or cracked my tail bone one time and I was pretty young at the time. That didn’t make any difference in the pain I suffered for many, many days. Our oldest was still into Santa and we had the trunk packed with his things on the way to Bristol to grandmother’s for Christmas. Stopped at babysitter’s to give her a gift on our way out of town. I got out to deliver the gift and slipped on an icy sidewalk and feet flew into the air and I flat landed on my tail bone. It got numb a few minutes.
Had to go to emergency room and spend a couple of hours. Had to have a ring to sit on for the trip. Doctor said I could go if I sat on that.
To shorten the story, while at grandmother’s (my mom’s) I had to crawl on my hands and knees around the house for a couple of days. Worst thing I’ve ever experienced. We were living in Radford Virginia at the time. And in certain damp weather, I still experience slight pain in that area! Well, thats my story and I’m sticking to it.
I can testify to that. Not even any jokes for mine. I am still limping.
