Well I would love to know exactly what “Johnny Knows It” is all about. First I though of Johnny Cakes, but no, thats not casseroles....you can inform all of us later. I’m sure I’m not the only one who hasn’t heard of it.
I have to work a little too. So I will be back with ya’ll later.
I had fried oysters for dinner last night....delicious! Bet you don’t like them, huh?

Some of you that I have on my email mailings got all the pix.. here is one of my fav's of A self-taught painter, Jim Warren defies artistic category. He is a most unusual artist.
A Los Angeles newspaper described him as
'somewhere between Dali and Rockwell.'

Yesterday made up a pot of bean soup. Started wtih dry 15 beans package. Added a couple onions, lots of minced garlic, celery, sea salt, Pepper, fennel, Italian seasoning, ketsup,.. simmered all day. Let set over night(I always prefer soup the next day). Just had my first bowl... YUMMY. cold & damp here today. Soup weather.
Yesterday’s meal was Tortillini. I picked up something at Giant Eagle (one of our large supermarkets).. Tortillini with walnuts & Gorgonzola cheese filling. It was 4.99 for 8 oz & 1.00 off coupon on the package.
I just cooked them up & served them with Onions/garlic sauteed in half butter & half olive oil. Added some Italian seasoning, fennel, & sea salt & a lemon Pepper seasoning blend. At very end added chopped fresh Roma tomato & just stirred to warm a bit.
Absolutely wonderful.
I will get 2 more meals out of it. Mom wont get any. Usually when I share my vegetarian treasures she complains. Canned tuna for her!

You have made me so hungry. Your soup sounds outstanding. There is nothing better than homemade soup. I love to make it because I have meals for several days and can share it with a neighbor if I so decide.....which I have done on several occasions. The girl across the street lost her husband a couple of years after me and the last time I took it to her with cornbread, she had one more fit over it.
Billie’s cooking, you’re cooking....mouth is watering.
Enjoy......that picture above is absolutely beautiful and very outstandingly different. Love it.

Death Be Not Proud
by John Donne
(1572-1631)
Death be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not so,
For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleepe, which but thy pictures bee,
Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee doe goe,
Rest of their bones, and soules deliverie.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poyson, warre, and sicknesse dwell,
And poppie, or charmes can make us sleepe as well,
And better then thy stroake; why swell'st thou then;
One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die.

Sonnet: Batter My Heart
Batter my heart, three-person'd God; for you
As yet but knock; breathe, shine, and seek to mend;
That I may rise, and stand, o'erthrow me, and bend
Your force, to break, blow, burn, and make me new.
I, like an usurp'd town, to another due,
Labour to admit you, but O, to no end.
Reason, your viceroy in me, me should defend,
But is captived, and proves weak or untrue.
Yet dearly I love you, and would be loved fain,
But am betroth'd unto your enemy;
Divorce me, untie, or break that knot again,
Take me to you, imprison me, for I,
Except you enthrall me, never shall be free,
Nor ever chaste, except you ravish me.
John Donne

Good Morning, Billie..
I love your beautiful magic fall scene and the poetry.
I just came back from my monthly grocery shopping..
Pansies, snapdragons and mums were for sale in the garden center...
My pink dogwood tree is still the only sign of fall around here.
I really looked!

Methought I Saw My Late Espoused Saint
Methought I saw my late espoused Saint
Brought to me like Alcestus from the grave,
Who Jove's great Son to her glad Husband gave,
Rescu'd from death by force though pale and faint.
Mine as whom washt from spot of child-bed taint
Purification in the old Law did save,
And such as yet once more I trust to have
Full sight of her in Heav'n without restraint,
Came vested all in white, pure as her mind:
Her face was veil'd, yet to my fancied sight
Love, sweetness, goodness in her person shin'd
So clear, as in no face with more delight.
But O as to embrace me she enclin'd
I wak'd, she fled, and day brought back my night.

To Althea, from Prison
WHEN Love with unconfinèd wings
Hovers within my gates,
And my divine Althea brings
To whisper at the grates;
When I lie tangled in her hair
And fetter'd to her eye,
The birds that wanton in the air
Know no such liberty.
When flowing cups run swiftly round
With no allaying Thames,
Our careless heads with roses bound,
Our hearts with loyal flames;
When thirsty grief in wine we steep,
When healths and draughts go free
Fishes that tipple in the deep
Know no such liberty.
When, like committed linnets, I
With shriller throat shall sing
The sweetness, mercy, majesty,
And glories of my King;
When I shall voice aloud how good
He is, how great should be,
Enlargèd winds, that curl the flood,
Know no such liberty.
Stone walls do not a prison make,
Nor iron bars a cage;
Minds innocent and quiet take
That for an hermitage;
If I have freedom in my love
And in my soul am free,
Angels alone, that soar above,
Enjoy such liberty.

Ahhh, Chrysanthemums - the color of fall in the garden! Beautiful! Who says autumn has to be orange and yellow and red? :)

On His Blindness
When I consider how my light is spent
Ere half my days in this dark world and wide,
And that one Talent which is death to hide
Lodged with me useless, though my soul more bent
To serve therewith my Maker, and present
My true account, lest He returning chide,
"Doth God exact day-labour, light denied?"
I fondly ask. But Patience, to prevent
That murmur, soon replies, "God doth not need
Either man's work or his own gifts. Who best
Bear his mild yoke, they serve him best. His state
Is kingly: thousands at his bidding speed,
And post o'er land and ocean without rest;
They also serve who only stand and wait."
