Getting drunk on a tight budget is practically a rite of passage. Just about all of us have some tale to tell about nights spent getting ****faced on Olde English 800 or some equally putrid swill.
But party all the time as we might, it's doubtful any of us have stories that involve being so broke, we had to resort to throwing down any of this. If we had, we'd likely not have lived to talk about it.

“S(top) W(ace)(ding) Dime”.
LOL.
Back eleventy billion years ago when I was at UW in Seattle, I was vera po’ indeed. I drank all of the MD, Thunderbird, Lucky, etc. My favorite though was to buy a case of beer for just a few bucks. The name of the beer? It was simply a white label which said “BEER” in big black letters. (I do think it was bottled by the same people who made Lucky Lager though).
So did Balentine Ale.
Balie was great for putting a buzz on with a limited budget - twice the kick as beer. Gosh, thirty years later I can still taste that "fortified" flavor the way it tasted on a hot summer day out of the 16 ounce green bottles.
Of course, if all you wanted was to get effed up on a budget - it was Haffenreffer "Green Death."
Other than urinal wine in prison I think lysol is the cheapest, nastiest crap I have seen or heard of people drinking.
When Kitty wants a drink
She looks under the sink
Ugh. I remember that. Two cans to an instant headache.
Rubbing alcohol? That stuff’s denatured! It’ll get you “blind drunk” - literally!
They're drunk!
Fred Sanford approves.
What’s the word? Thunderbird
What’s the price? A dolla twice
aka squeeze.
“Ocean” is prepared by punching a whole in the hairspray bottle with a nail, releasing the propellant. The remaining liquid is then poured into a gallon milk jug to mix with water. Sometimes other stuff is added to disguise the awful taste.
Very popular with indians in Gallup NM. AquaNet is 70% methyl alcohol.
I used to work at a convenience store across the road from a state office building. People without an address would go there to pick up their government checks. On an ordinary week we would carry a case or two of thunderbird. On the first week of the month when the checks came in we carried 8 cases of the bird. I used to always go ahead and put the bottle in a little paper bag and twist the top.
Sterno has long been mixed with water and other liquids to produce a drink called "canned heat", "squeeze" or "pink lady". The product is squeezed through a rag (or in other traditions, a loaf of French bread with ends removed) to extract the alcohol. These alcoholic beverages, primarily used in poorer communities, have been linked to numerous deaths from methanol poisoning, including 31 people in Philadelphia in 1963.[2]

Guaranteed less than 30 days old!
There's another one of the cheapies that said on the label "guaranteed less than 30 days old" and now I can't remember what it was.
Nothing like a good jolt of soju...of course, I prefer the snake variety over the rat...
