Thank you, Amy and All FRiends, for the Always Awesome Posts and Graphics at Amy’s Place! I’m in the Middle of Huge Downpours where I Live, and the Rain has Knocked the Internet Satellite Service Off, so I’ve had to Retreat to Dial-Up, so a Few Graphics on the Thread won’t Load. :( What a Rain we’re Getting Here! The Pastures Outside are Full of Water, and my Overhead Greenhouse-Type Windows in the Living Room Sprung a Leak a Few Minutes Ago, and Water Dripped on my Couch! :( What a Day, Lol!

Boy .... were you brave!
I would never pick up a stranger .... even for $20.00 : ^ )
We are happy that you are part of our FReeRepublic Family.

You know Lori I didn't do this for $20.00. I truly didn't expect a cent & if I didn't need the gas money I would have more strongly insisted he keep it. He was about my son's age & obviously in a mess. The truck he was driving (or wanted to drive that had stopped/stalled) was old & in rough shape. For dress of young people it is hard to tell if they are poor or fashionable.. but he was not a YUPPY that is for sure.

I stop & help people & give rides when I can. There is not a whole lot I can do for others at times, but these simple gestures of good will & help are not hard & mean a lot to people along the way

I realize the risks & potential for problems.. Guess this is just another way of trusting God with your life.

Sorry, Kitty! We don’t seem to be able to get a nice gentle rain anymore. It’s either 10” at a time or nothing!

I know that you didn’t do it for the $20.00. I was teasing you.

It is just that I would not stop for any stranger, even with my son or hubby in the car.

Guess that I’m a coward. I will not let PrissyMissy play in the front yard unless someone is with her or she stays close to the house so I can see her from the living room. She cannot go to the side of the house. It could be just California, but there are lots of strange strangers out there.

BE Careful!!

And if he is single introduce him to me!

Just Amy's matchmaker thread?

Just had a nice walk with Pat & John & my 2 dogs & John's 2 dogs. Also afterwards I went alone to Chil's for their bottomless salad/soup lunch. I am full & ready for a nap!

No date tonight & so get to stay home & play on line & watch a movie or two perhaps

It seems several of us have anniverary dates in same time frame (but years difference)..

Happy #`10 to you.Lori

just relax.. water can be cleaned up & leaks patched. Enjoy the beauty of the rain/storm. Let it remind you of the big rain a couple thousand years ago... and the rainbow that followed

Hugs to you missy Kitty

**And if he is single introduce him to me!**

Sorry—Dad’s taken! I’m sure he’d appreciate the compliment. I’ll tell him.

**Just had a nice walk **

Glad you got to walk. I’ve been taking the rat terrorists but it’s about to get too warm here and the bugs will eat you alive! Can’t walk in the fall because of deer hunters. Not a bad thing—less for me to run over/eat my garden!

afraid you wont get a whole lot of sympathy from we northerners about it being too warm there....lol

we still have a lot of snow on the ground(which is fronzen underneath)

My dogs can go out year round & love the rain, blizzards, whatever. A week ago Suinday when we had the big snowfall it was over the top of their bodies (and they are big dogs.. a golden retriever & a german shepherd).. they bounded it through it and had a magical time. I take them out for one big outing a day (hour or more off leash in remote area)

I would “bound” more if it were NOT for my rough back along the way.

tell dad hello & if he visits I wont hit on him(cant promise for Amy or Lori however).. ha!

Frozen ground? Snow? Those are four letter words! And believe me when I say it’s not the heat, it’s the humidity.
Think about it this way—go put on your heaviest, scratchiest wool longjohns and then go try to do heavy manual labor in a sauna stuck on high!

The variety of starving insects we have here is amazing. We live close to the marsh and the worst ones are the sand gnats. About the size of a pinhead, they bite like a starving t-rex. Not only that, they get in your ears, eyes, inside your clothes.... Still, I wouldn’t live anywhere else! Just stay inside a lot.

Thank you, my Sweet FRiend, and you are So Right; this Rainstorm is Both Beautiful and Awesome, a Glorious Creation of Heaven's King, and I Almost Lost Sight of that. Thank you for Helping me to See the Big Picture and to not Dwell Upon the Small Things; you have Brought a Smile of Happiness to my Face and Thanksgiving to my Heart! The Ducks are still Swimming in the King's Pond, and the Squirrels are still Foraging for Pecans; they don't Seem to Mind the Rain at All; on the Contrary, they Seem to Rejoice in it, which is what I'm Doing Now.

Hugs, Dear Sister in Christ, with Thanksgiving from my Heart!

Thank you, Sweet Gardengirl, and it's Really Coming Down Now! This is Rare to Get this Much Rain where I Live, so it's an Incredible Sight. The King's Creek is Probably Getting Full, so I Hope to Go Down and Look at it this Evening or in the Morning, when the Rains Cease. My House has a Lot of Windows in it, and I have the Blinds Up and am Watching the Rains Pour from the Skies; an Awesome Sight!

I love a good storm! We’ve had some humdingers the last few years. I get to see most of them since my oldest female rat terrorist is terrified of any noise, esp thunder!

Awkward Moments Day?

I gotcha covered.

Embarrassed

I locked my keys inside my car,
No need to wonder where they are.
I plainly see them sitting there,
The rolled-up glass is clear as air.

I pat my pockets in the hope,
I’m really not this big a dope.
But they are empty, as I knew,
And this confirms something that’s true.

If there were some way I could lock it,
I’d end up barred from my own pocket.
I know that given half a chance,
I’d lock myself outside my pants.

I’d zip them up, secure the clasp,
And only then I’d surely gasp,
To realize, of all the gentry,
My pants alone deny my entry.

I’m sure the cop would soon come ‘round,
As word would spread across the town,
“My wife’s phone number? You can call it,
It’s written there inside my wallet.”

It seemed salvation was at hand,
I stood at the door of my laundry man.
It was at this point I got extra nervous,
I saw the sign, “no shirt, no shoes, no service.”

Sorry that I went missing today.

We had a couple of things to do in Fresno .... should not have taken very long.
Marissa informed us that she was starrvin; so we went to Red Robin.

We had hoped to go by the SPCA and pick a new kitten for her.
We got there to late; visiting ended at 4:00 so we will try again tomorrow.
We may not be able to pick the kitty up until Thursday.
It will depend on the time they schedule the neuter surgery.

I'm tired tonight so I'm going to bed.
Marissa is in bed but not asleep. I hope the sandman comes soon.

Good night, All. Sweet dreams.

A view of Mission San Juan Capistrano in April of 2005. The Mission has earned a reputation as the “Loveliest of the Franciscan Ruins.” While the ruins of “The Great Stone Church” (which was all but leveled by an 1812 earthquake) are a renowned architectural wonder, the Mission is perhaps best known for the annual “Return of the Swallows”

The miracle of the "Swallows" of Capistrano takes place each year at the Mission San Juan Capistano, on March 19th, St. Joseph's Day. As the little birds wing their way back to the most famous Mission in California, the village of San Juan Capistrano takes on a fiesta air and the visitors from all parts of the world, and all walks of life, gather in great numbers to witness the "miracle" of the return of the swallows.

Each year the "Scout Swallows" precede the main flock by a few days and it seems to be their chief duty to clear the way for the main flock to arrive at the "Old Mission" of Capistrano. With the arrival of early dawn on St. Joseph's Day, the little birds begin to arrive and begin rebuilding their mud nests, which are clinging to the ruins of the old stone church of San Juan Capistrano.

Swallows of San Juan Capistrano

After winter’s vacation, in Argentina,
they return each year as if by subpoena.
How do they do it, for ages it’s been asked,
how do little birds perform such a task?

But then these are not just any bird,
but the famous swallows of which you’ve heard.
As sure as the notes of an accomplished soprano,
they find their way back to San Juan Capistrano.

Leaving South America as if by a clock,
flying to California before they dock,
right on schedule on “St. Joseph’s Day”,
at San Juan’s mission Spring and Summer to stay.

The swallow’s flight takes some 7,000 miles,
and to dwell on that may bring some denials.
To catch air currents with the necessary flow,
altitudes are adjusted often to the most apropos.

Arrival at the old mission is quite an occasion,
as worldwide visitors celebrate the invasion.
Bells of the old church ring loudly for hours,
and a huge fiesta is replete with Spring flowers.

The swallows set about to build mud nests,
knowing safety is assured as honored guests.
They seem to sense San Juan’s regulation,
to harm the swallows means a jail destination.

Behind the sheltered walls of the old mission,
spending Spring and Summer as if by cognition,
the swallows realize when it’s time to leave,
making the term “bird brain” hard to believe.

On the “Day of San Juan”, October twenty-three,
the birds circle the old mission, preparing to flee.
With “Thank you” squawks echoing o’er the land below,
they turn for Argentina, it’s time for their Winter show.

It’s true those in San Juan regret seeing them depart,
but next March 19 they’ll fly back into their heart.
How do they do it, for centuries it’s been asked,
how do little birds perform such a task?

.
