She had gone to Target with her brother and sister-in-law to buy a DVD player for their new house, and had decided to go off on her own. She was looking over women's blouses when a young girl brushed past her. The girl angrily demanded an apology. The woman was taken aback and refused, according to her account, and tried to turn her attention back to the rack of clothes.

Sanchez said some store employees were present when the fight began and didn't try to intervene.
"They didn't do nothing, nothing whatsoever," Sanchez said. "The manager didn't respond when I told her about it. She said, 'We told our employees not to get involved so they won't get hurt.' "
Employees at the store declined to comment, though a spokesman for the franchise released a statement.

What if they were four gang bangers?
So if four gang bangers were whaling on another gang banger in a dark alley, you would jump in?
...strange no mention of security cameras
This is liberal land.. The bliss ninnies rule there. They are simply afraid to interfere.
There are also those that are afraid of the police, prosecutors and lawyers. They don't want anything to do with them, because they're quite often a bunch of corrupt lying bastards, enabled by the bliss ninnies. If one of the precious little things had been touched by an adult, they run the risk of being prosecuted for child abuse.
"A bunch of customers and/or employees could have easily restrained these girls..."
Easily? How do you know how big/tough they were? How do you know they weren't armed?
Apparently they are not civilized humans either. It should be instinctive to try to protect someone from attack.
"The manager didn't respond when I told her about it. She said, 'We told our employees not to get involved so they won't get hurt.' "
Then there is this:
"Target's first priority is always the safety of our guests," the statement said. "We take this situation very seriously and are committed to providing a safe, secure environment."
Does that mean that Target is committed to ensuring the safety of their patrons, so long as Target employees don't actually have to do anything to ensure that safety? This is a strange version of commitment, almost indistinguishable from indifference.
Ditto. LOL!
They're human beings. When you stand back and watch someone brutalize a victim, you're just as guilty in my book.
A DVG or Designated Victim Group is a term I've borrowed from John Derbyshire; click here.
I would imagine the reporter didn't write about them because she doesn't shop at Target.
It's highly likely ALL the participants are members of designated victim minorities though.
Do you think an employer has the right to order their employees to get physically involved in such a thing?
"It should be instinctive to try to protect someone from attack."
No, self preservation is an instinct. Jumping into a melee that one has no knowledge of nor is any of ones business is idiocy.
How about this. The girl being attacked is out on bail for killing the four other girls innocent ten year old brother via a stray bullet in a drive by shooting. The girls notice her in the store and decide to exact a little family revenge.
Still want to jump in?
One word: Lawyers.
Take notes???????
So, I guess when the girls were done you could have just walked over, nudged the victim with your foot, and said hey lady, I stood over there and watched the whole thing. It's okay though, I took notes.
You don't attack and beat on people.
You may come up with all the reasons you wish why you would stand by and let another human be mauled like this. The rest of us will defend civilization.
Happens all the time.
"What is wrong with our society?"
What "society" might you mean?
"Why do people completely abdicate any sense of duty or responsibility to their fellow human beings?"
Because they're no longer humans, they're animals.
...& this, a jungle.
"They're human beings."
Assumes facts not in evidence.
"When you stand back and watch someone brutalize a victim, you're just as guilty in my book."
Nice circular logic. Right now thousands are being brutalized in Darfur...when does your plane leave?
If armed with knives, broomsticks work well. If the teens were armed they could've done serious damage to the victim. Are we supposed to just stand by and let someone get seriously wounded?
..:)
