David said that Pitt was the dreariest place he'd ever been in. He's getting his fill of sunny, now, in Austin!
Yeah, my sister studied in England last year, she said the only difference in the climate was we got more snow.
The more I learn the more I think I live in the greatest climate in the world. 9 months of rain, three months of drought. It's predictable, lots of rain in winter, but in the summer you can plan on it being sunny and between 70 and 90 every day, and can actually spend the summer outside... In the shade :~)
I loved the climate in Fort Collins! Lots of sunshine, snow at snowtimes, hot dry summers.
Ft Collins might be a little too hot for me in summer just because of the lack of trees. If it's gonna be over 80, I need to be in the shade.
But I do like snow...
Yeah, but they haven't yet figured out how to operate a snowplow.
That's what was mind-boggling to me.
That, and I'm used to snow that arrives in December and pretty much stays until May. The snow and melt and snow and melt cycles would take getting used to.
Guess I'll probably have a chance at that here, too.
Well, yeah, that part surprised me too. I don't get it.
Ungh. Spent the whole day running errands and cleaning carpets and we're still not done. With either. I am sooo glad I'll be living in a smallish house for a while!
Well, my little corn crop planted in May was harvested today.
Three rather weird looking little cobs that are almost big enough to eat :~)
And a few more that looked like this :~)
Which the horses enjoyed very much :~)
They like the stalks almost as much :~D
A whole summer's corn crop, devoured in minutes :~)
What was learned... not sure, but it was fun, and I'll probably do it again next year in a bigger pot... more plants. The variety of corn might not have been the best, it was not the "early girl" variety I've had success with in the past in this area, and it got infested with some kind of dirty looking little black bugs, which is what made me decide to pull it now, it didn't look like it was going to get any better if I left it to grow more.
Maybe I should go down and find out what variety the maze people grow and try that for next year.
Kewl crop! At least the squirrels didn't get it.
Do they get enough sunlight? They pollinate better if you plant them in blocks (4 rows by 4 rows, for example). Maybe dwarf varieties would do better in pots.
We usually had to dust for insect critters during the year.
I still haven't decided if mine is about as done as it's gonna get. It doesn't look as healthy as yours did...I think I watered at the wrong time of the day and stuff.
Probably the same reason I now have bitty pumpkins that are already turning orange instead of getting bigger...
Except for the size, it looks remarkably like a brand around here called "Peaches and Cream". It is a very sweet, very good corn-on-the-cob variety I get a lot during the summer. LSA
You can decorate the bitty pumpkins rather than try to cook with them.
Almost done carpet cleaning. Sheesh. And I'm in charge of having dinner ready for seven and I'm going to go print up my programs at a friend's office. She wants to leave at seven. Guess my lovely oven roast and pan potatoes will be reheated.
They didn't get enough sun... it's in the shade till after noon. That's the price of all these trees. They're in the sunniest spot I've got.
Next year, I think I'll be able to move them up where they will get more sun, because we're going to reconfigure the front and move the gate forward a bit, as soon as the new store owner gets done with what he's doing. And I think I'll plant them in a group in a round whiskey barrel (or two) where they would be in more of a group then a single row.
Tomatos, which I don't even like to grow, seem to thrive in my care.. This is all off of one rather skinny looking cherry tomato plant whose top broke off before I even got it in the ground. It was one branch of a plant I almost just tossed :~) The bottom ones are starting to turn red.
Maybe pick one or two of the biggest ones and see if they are still looking good inside. See if you've got the same bugs I had. Save all your husks and the stalks, the horses love them :~)
Well, that might be it. I don't remember the name on it, but it is a variety that is yellow and white, and I think it was supposed to be bigger :~)
Think I'll try that...even if they aren't ripe all the way up, if there are any ripe kernals, I may just cook it anyhow...
And you can have all the stalks eventually, for sure. ;-)
This is one of the bigger ones...but maybe I'll have something edible after all. I did see one small bug, but it doesn't look like they're infested or anything.
