Beg to differ. I think they're in lousy shape as evidenced by their extremely stiff joints, stooped backs, and ditherish minds. All of the other oldies have been far brighter and more flexible.
I loved the doctor-wife couple a few seasons ago...she was in terrific shape, he was so adept at stuffing sausage cases in Germany, that remains one of my top TAR moments....clearly, he'd had lots of practice handling intestines. As I recall, he was over 70.
Lake seems like a total jerk! I wanted to like him, but he's nasty to his wife. I had to laugh when one of the racers thought his name was "Blake" and he said, "Lake. Like the ocean." Um, no.
One racer faces an extreme fear of heights by rappelling down a 400-foot building; another becomes lost and has trouble operating a manual transmission.
CBS joins the mid-season replacement bandwagon with "The Unit," a new drama created by the legendary David Mamet and "The Shield" creator Shawn Ryan. The inspired-by-reality series follows a covert team of Special Forces operatives as they risk their lives on various undercover missions around the world. Jonas Blane (Dennis Haysbert, "24") leads the unit; in the premiere episode, Jonas takes new recruit Bob Brown (Scott Foley, "Felicity") under his wing as their group sets out to rescue a hijacked plane filled with European businessmen. Back on the homefront, the team's wives help Bob's wife Kim (Audrey Marie Anderson) get acclimated to "unit life." Regina Taylor ("I'll Fly Away") and Robert Patrick ("The X-Files") also star.
So the unit comes on at 8:00 and TAR at 9:00, right? It's not coming on at the same time as AI is it? I am definately going to watch the unit if I can, want to see if it's PC liberal or if it's like 24. Last nights 24 was SO GOOD!!!!
Nope, on East Coast Time, it's Idol at 8, then The Unit at 9, followed by Tar at 10. They don't dare put anything up against Idol :)
GREAT!!! Wow, Tuesday night line ups look really good. The only nights i don't like any tv now is Saturday and Sunday. :) I generally rent, but this weekend I have something fun to watch. I have rented AI; highlights of seasons 1-4. I never got to see season 1 with Kelly so I am looking forward to seeing it. Wasn't 24 good last night? So unexpected with Edgar. :(
I am not even up for TAR tonight, after the demise of Edgar on 24-hopefully, I can get over my, "not Edgar, he was too young to die." mood. And since we know they didn't fake Edgar's death, like Jack's last season, well, Just Damn.
Thanks for the re-cap. I missed some of TAR whilst I was ensconced in my room at Wynn Las Vegas!
Yes, she should have, but still, I don't hate the guy. I think this team can shape up and do well. I do not see a Victoria/Jonathan redux situation here. Not by a long shot.
Placemark and thanks for the reminder on President Palmers new show tonight. :)
I wonder if he will kneecap anyone. lol You know some show is going to start copying Jack!
I guess Edgar didn't have a mask under his desk :(
He was such a good character along with Chloe I can't figure out why they needed to kill him.
I hope Edgar isn't dead and can be revived. That stunk.
You're welcome :) And that reminds me--this morning I caught an interview with Dennis Haysbert on the CBS Early Show. It mainly focused on The Unit, but they did talk about 24 and what he said really surprised me. So did his attitude.
Last year, before this season of 24 began filming, the producers contacted Haysbert and told him the plot and how David Palmer would be assassinated.
He was upset. "Why would they want to kill a president who is more popular than the one we really have", meaning President Bush, and he pointed to the bogus CBS poll as proof!
Haysbert then went on about how Palmer was "the first black president", beloved by the fans, etc. and they were just going to kill him off? He told the 24 producers they could kill Palmer off but he wouldn't film that scene. The producers said, "Okay, we'll just use a fake CNN report."
Haysbert laughed when he repeated this in the interview, as if they couldn't possibly film something like that without him.
IMO, he was very smug about this and my opinion of him dropped a few points. (We know eventually he did film the assassination scene so I guess the producers must've paid him enough to make it worth his while. So much for his moral objections.)
He then went on to talk--with great reverence--about his upcoming role as Nelson Mandela. Gag.
The interview left a bad aftertaste :-/
This does not surprise me in the least...2 years ago I saw him interviewed(I think it was Regis) amd he said he modeled his character on Clinton...he was/is a big Clinton supporter...I never cared for him since...
Well then, I'm glad he got it through the throat on 24, that should have shut him up.
I'm with you, I certainly don't like his attitude.
Thanks for passing it on.
I hope The Unit doesn't reflect his politics, but David Mamet, one of the creators of the show, is a HUGE lib ...
The teaser you posted says... "has trouble operating a manual transmission". I've got to say - don't these people think ahead? It takes a couple hours of driving a manual to get used to it. Most of the rest of the world uses them. Previous Races have had teams get into trouble. Don't you think if you were selected for TAR the first thing you would do - after buying good running shoes - would be learn how to drive a stick?
Oh well. I like laughing at the silly positions people get themselves in on this race. I hope the sisters get eliminated next.
CTU will discover that fat absorbs and neutralizes the toxic affects of the nerve gas..Hey, works for me. Pass me those Krispy Kremes, Edgar.
I have zero interest in Lost, 24, The Unit, and most other tv shows. I do, however, enjoy Boston Legal even though it's a liberal propaganda show. Now TAR will be on at the same time.
For the second season in a row, it seems that the producers and network are trying to murder TAR. The show got an emmy two seasons ago so they came up with that dismal family version last season followed by this timeslot change where it will NOT attract any new viewers and may well lose old ones. Like me.
And I do notice a kind of nastiness in the show's decision process about who from middle America can be a contestant. Apparently, you have to be ugly, stupid, and obnoxious -- like the ugly glamazons == to represent middle America against attractive and educated gays and minorities.
My bet is on the black couple to win. This is based on the show's history: Every time a black couple has been on the show, they've won. I loved the earlier black contestants because they were polite, educated, upscale first-rate people. Trouble was, they were more educated, smart, and with-it than any of the non-blacks they raced against.
So, TAR really isn't that much fun for me any more, as the social engineering tips us off to the winners before the show even begins.
Did appreciate the helicopter views of Sao Paolo last week, however. Beyond the travelogue aspects of the show, though, what's to like? I can watch Boston Legal and flip over to TAR once in awhile to look at the scenery. Damn, I loved this show.
