And now for tonight’s Dinklemeyer:

In this mean little thing, I introduced that Freddy did at least have a little bit of a dark side. Perhaps a yearning to conquer the world, or at least his high school, in a Napoleonic way? I also here first brought the actual name of his school, Boron High School.

This is the longest continual strip in the series, running two pages (though the size of the drawings helps. I didn’t want anyone to interpret it in a dark or sinister way (a la Columbine; you have to be careful in today’s paranoid politically correct society). It’s done in the same spirit as Calvin from “Calvin and Hobbes” fantasizing about bombing his school from the face of the earth. I read a lot of “Calvin and Hobbes” as a kid, and here, you can see a little inspiration shining through. I love the fantasy art poured into Calvin’s imagination and wanted to do something similar. Some fun art actually went into this strip (fun considering my limited artistic talent at the time). I thought it would be funny to draw Freddy as a big, muscular, Rambo-type character, but still wearing the same clothes as he usually does.

The Dinklemeyer world at this point was still being built and explored. Soon we will see an explosion of cartoonish creativity, meeting fun new characters and strange stories.

Hey, I know what you mean, I remember when my buddy and I played our post apocalyptic role playing games, I took a map of my school and stocked it with mutants, monsters and treasure. Then our characters cleared it room by room, my favorite "tool" was an M-16 with a grenade launcher. B-) Come to think of it, if we have "Doom" or "Duke Nukem 3D" then (I graduated in 1985) those maps would have made good games. B-) I'm glad I went to school when I did, otherwise, I'd be expelled. B-)

That sounds like fun. After Columbine, I can say from experience (I was in the 9th grade at the time) that mass hysteria gripped the entire country. ANY thing could be interpreted as a threat. I saw kids get expelled all the time for silly reasons. Those idiot school shooters ruined it for the rest of us.

I had to be careful with this, so I had to make sure it was goofy looking enough that no one would get suspicious.

The sad truth is that Cindy has the makings for being a creepy stalker...

She's a sad case, that Cindy.

Meeting with Hugo Chavez and saying she's going to run for the Senate against Feinstein. I mean, COME ON. It's the most sad and pathetic bid for attention from the media I think I've ever seen.

Am I crazy?

No one's going to read a cartoon tonight; they're all going to be watching the State of the Union speech!!!

The content of her rants is bad enough, but that lispy voice that sounds like a slow-witted seven-year-old girl grates on my nerves like toilet paper made from #4 sandpaper.

And we thought Susan Estrich's voice was bad...

And we were right. But Cindy Sheehan's is bad, too.

And that, my friends, will explain tonight's slowness.

But tomorrow, I imagine a plethora of pingsters will arrive.

YOU????

2 DAYS before my graduation in 1986, we had a substitute teacher in our room who had it in for me, for a Long time. The principle was away, and so he was filling in for him, too.

I was gathering pictures for my scrapbook(which subsequently was lost forever),and I found one of a guy, showing him in a tanning bed, with the little goggles on. Now, me and this guy were not exactly friends, and he wanted the picture. I did not want to give it to him, so, he grabbed my desk, and shoved it at me. That is ALL that happened, but it was enough. Mr Alberts, the sub/principal in absentia, seized on his opportunity. I was sent home, and told that I MAY not be allowed back, the following day, and that would cause me to miss my finals, which would mean........NO GRADUATION!!!!!

Needless to say I was PEEVED!! I stomped out of the room, mumbling something about "if I am not allowed to come back over this, and miss graduation I will make some plastic and blow this whole school down"!!

The next day, I came back, the principal was there, and ALL was forgotten. I graduated on schedule, and that night, several of us went and egged the car and house of THAT teacher, and I DID participate in that one!!! Of course something like that from an 18 year old today, would be considered a terroristic threat!!

Wow.

In my high school, we were forced to have "see-through" bookbags. Bookbags had to be clear or mesh. No exceptions. That way, "they could see if you'd smuggled a weapon in via your bookbag."

It was a travesty.

He would probably kill me for telling you this, but when my Dad was in HS, he blew up the lockers with a quarter stick of dynamite.

We've got an elementary school, John G. Dinkelmeyer School, in our district. You've got Cindy down pat. I like the skull and flower on her note. She is evil's friend.
