NFC Championship game
1-20-06 | normy

I have had it with the total lack of respect the Seattle Seahawks are getting in the media. I recently watched Sean Salisbury and Mike Golic almost mock the Seahawks on Wednesday.

The Seahawks have probowlers at center, left guard, left tackle, quarterback, fullback and runningback. They have one of the most accomplished head coaches in the NFC and have won 14 games this year.

Carolina is a very inconsistant team who has to fly from Chicago to Carolina then back accross country to Seattle to play in a rain forrest. Carolina is 3rd in the NFL against the run, but Seattle is 5th. Seattle is number one in sacks, I believe Carolina is 2nd. Steve Smith scored two 50+ yard touchdowns against the Bears after the corner fell down. Seattle lost the league MVP had 3 turnovers and still won by 10. The Bears lowly offense put up 21 against Carolina and if the refs call the delay of game against Grossman, the Bears may have well tied that game instead of turning the ball over.

Seattle is 8-0 in Seattle this year and have one of the best offenses in the league. Look for Seattle to not just win but beat hell out of Carolina. Don't worry though Hawk fans, you still wont get respect because Nick Goings is Carolina's runningback and thats how Seattle will be "backing into the Superbowl."

Look for Seattle to exorcise their final demon in the Superbowl when the beat their former AFC West rival, the Denver Broncos, the second most disrespected team in the league for the title.

The Seahawks were the #1 or 2 offense all year and had the #1 or 2 scoring offense all year without their #1 or 2 receivers playing for a good part of it.

When Dallas played Seattle I kept hearing how Dallas was playing without Flozelle Adams and Julius Jones and how disadvantaged they were. Seattle had their #3 receiver at #1 spot because #'s 1and 2 were hurt. Their starting safety was gone as was their #2and 3 cornerbacks yet all I heard was how Seattle stole a win.

The Bronco's and the Seahawks have gotten almost no credit for their success this year. The Colts, the Pats, the Giants and the Bears all got bumped in their first games and those were the ones the media wanted to win. Thats just the way it is.

You know what would make a Seahawks vs. Broncos matchup extra interesting? For years they were in the same division and played each other twice a year. I lived in Seattle and was a Seahawks fan and my brother lived north of Denver and was a Broncos fan. I miss that little rivalry we had going.

Respect is earned. The Seahawks have won one playoff game in the last 21 years, not much to respect there. If they make it 2 they'll be something to discuss.

If Carolina and Denver make the SB, I want a ban on the use of the phrase "The Two Jakes."

I hope thats the angle they use to promote Superbowl XL. There was the Boz/Elway thing, the Kingdom crowd causing Elway all kinds of problems, the Largent revenge hit on Denvers corner. There was alot of good games there in those years and it would be a fitting closure for the Seahawks after being relocated to beat their old division.

Seattle didnt get any respect because they had a VERY weak schedule and the good teams they faced, they lost or in the case of the Giants they should have lost.

This will probably be the lowest rated Super Bowl in modern history.

Yes, two fairly small media markets and no East Coast teams involved...a network executive's nightmare! They are probably praying for a Carolina-Pittsburgh matchup.

I think they are hoping for a Denver/Carolina SB That way one of th east one from the west. And I think Denvers still has a pretty loyal following since the Elway years.

I am not disaggreeing with you. I am rooting for Seattle. Especially if Aikman is picking them as well. He has developed a way of gaging a team to see if they have it or not, that bucks the usual talking sports heads theories.

Ha! Have you seen the Bears schedule? And as far as Giants or Cowboy fans are concerned, you lost. Not only did you lose, but you had to come back just to tie. The Giants were given a bogus touchdown by Shockey and needed an amazing catch by Toomer just to get back in the game.

good teams they faced, they lost or in the case of the Giants they should have lost.

Really? Well they beat the Cowboys and the Giants the Falcons and the Colts. They lost to Washington in overtime after Josh Brown missed a 48 yarder to win it the third game of the season. They lost to Jacksonville on the first game of the season and they lost to Green Bay the last game of the season. They have since avenged the loss to Washington.

Why should they have lost to the Giants? The refs gave the Giants an extra touchdown and said they were sorry for it. Barring that score the game would have never gone into overtime.

I like Kenneth Massey and his Massey Ratings, especially for college football. Here's something from his NFL ratings that may buck you up if you're rooting for a Broncos-Seahawks Super Bowl. Notice that his ratings have Denver and Seattle as the two highest rated teams left in the playoffs.

Using games from Thursday, September 8, 2005 to Sunday, January 15, 2006

I doubt it. The Superbowl has bery well established itself as an "event" in its own right. The vast majority of the audience are non-traditional football fan who don't even have a favorite team. Part of the point of media week is to give the media a chance to fake up some human interest story or other to give the non-football fans something to hook onto. It'll still get typically gigantic ratings.

Denver had a brutal schedule playing of course the AFC West and the NFC East. Seattle had an easy schedule but what do you do? Is an 11-5 team who played their starters going into the playoffs better than a team 13-3 who sat starters for the last two games, (one they lost).

Are the numbers in parentheses after the schedule rating the rank in toughness of schedule? I noticed Carolina is 30 and Seattle is 32

Wait, two of the best SB I have seen in recent years was St.Louis/Tennessee and Denver/GB. Are you saying east coast people don't watch the SB because an east coast team isn't playing?

This isn't the NBA finals.

I'm not sure, but I think you're probably right. Massey also has all of the divisions plus each of the two conferences ranked. The AFC West is #1, the AFC in general #4, the NFC in general #6 and the NFC West #10. So yes, the Seahawks had an easy division schedule and a mediocre AFC schedule, but still they ran through their schedule about as well as anyone could. Winning 11 straight games is extremely rare in the NFL, no matter what division you're in.

Hey, don't sweat the lack of respect. It will make the victory that much sweeter. I'm now a Titans fan more than Seahawks because I live in Tennessee. Three years ago we came into the playoffs having won 10 of the last 11 games, but got very little respect. We had a better record and more victories against playoff teams than any other team, but we still got precious little respect. We didn't even get one player voted to the Pro-Bowl and Jeff Fisher didn't get named coach of the year. Until we were derailed by the Raiders, it made for a particularly sweet ride. Just wish we'd gone all the way that year because it looks to be a long time before we get back there.

Tennessee really isn't that far out. With a coach like Fisher they will always play hard. I knew when Seattle went in there this year it would be a tough game. I think Jacksonville was a fluke and, well Indy is Indy but a couple moves and Tenn will be right there.
