A bright star suddenly appears on April 30, 1006 near the star Beta Lupi in the constellation Lupus. This bright star is yellowish-white in color. The star gets brighter, bright to a point, it is brighter than Venus and half Moon. It has a magnitude of -9 at its peak. The star was visible for a year and it disappeared afterwards. The bright star was a supernova. Supernovas are when a star explodes. The Supernova is recorded in Korea, China, Japan, Mesopotamia, and Europe, often by astrologers. The supernova was seen as an omen. The remnants of the 1006 Supernova were discovered in 1960 by radio telescope. The remnant is extremely faint to this day. The 1006 Supernova was likely caused by a supergiant star that was dying and exploded. Some supernova remants are relatively bright, like the Crab Nebula, which is from a supernova recorded in 1054 AD. Astronomers today believe that the Milky Way is due for a supernova very soon. Maybe it is happening as we speak, but we cannot see it because of the dust clouds of the Milky Way. The last supernova to be visible with our eyes was in 1987 when a supergiant star exploded near the Large Magellenic cloud. It had a brightness equivalent to Andromeda Galaxy.
