I don't do well on IQ tests in general. How about on other kinds of tests; accounting, for instance?

Yes, there are things like 'social intelligence', for example.
Social intelligence, verbal intelligence, emotional intelligence, kinesthetic intelligence, etc.
To: HKMk23
I must have done well on accounting tests, or I wouldn't be in the PhD program. ;-)

Hugh? No. Viruses, as a rule, are very, very small. But, if you want to, I suppose we could name the typso virus "Hugh". We're already so familiar with it that it seems a member of the family. Might as well give it a proper name.

"Then I won't join!" You don't need to join. You're here with us, aren't you?
By the way, I don't take IQ tests. I figure, either way, I'm going to be disappointed. And what would be the point, anyway?
It's not like you can take a refresher course.

i live in a very small town and am, therefore, always on call for my own patients, and one week in three, on call for "unattached" patients (ER patients with no local doctor), aka, "unclaimed bodies". fortunately, we now have PAs in the ER 24/7, and they handle all of the reasonable stuff, and we only get called in for really hair-raising problems. most of my calls are from the in-patient areas of two hospitals, and from the local nursing home.

Here, try THIS:

That is a great test site. I'm too cheap to pay for the membership.

Yes, you certainly must have done some things quite well.
I've known several highly intelligent people, however, who simply do not perform well in any kind of structured testing environment. It's not an uncommon trait. So, when you said you didn't do well on IQ test, I inquired about how you do on tests in general. Perhaps you do no worse on IQ tests that on any others, except for the perception that anything less than stellar on an IQ test is undesireable, which is, of course, not true.
If you get an even 100, you're right in the fat middle of the bell curve so, anything above 100 puts you just that much above "normal". Of course, as has been mentioned, there's far more to the human mind than mere intelligence. I recall hearing somewhere that Madonna has a 140 IQ, while JFK had an IQ around average -- don't recall the exact figure -- but compare their accomplishments. Obviously, it's what you DO with what you've got that really counts.

"... there are some questions regarding the validity of current IQ testing as it relates to intelligence." I think a perfect candidate subject for a potential best-selling book, for anyone who wants to do the research, would be to find out how many Mensa members have died in ironically unfortunate ways.
Like walking into an open manhole.
Or trying to warm up their bathwater with an electrical space heater.
There probably is an active Anti-Mensa reverse snobbery extant here, and I am probably afflicted with it. I really should be more sensitive.
