The discovery of bison bones in Peoria County proves the animals were in Illinois about 1,700 years earlier than previously thought, according to scientists. Radiocarbon dating confirmed a group of eight bison died at a site along the Illinois River around 265 B.C., said Alan Harn, an archaeologist with Dickson Mounds Museum. Until the dating tests, scientists did not have evidence of bison in Illinois before 1450... Archaeologists also found two partial deer skeletons and two partial elk skeletons near the bison, Harn said.

Interesting!
I think we're the only ones...
Mammoth told me there'd be days like these. Besides this nice bison art, there is a mammoth image at the link.
Neat. How did I miss this one?
What would that be worth?
[nearly three months later] I don't know, but such a coat would be priceless. If anyone ever made one, back when mammoths were around, and wound up buried in proper conditions, it could still be around.
Somebody had to tan the leather.
You are right- it would be priceless.
When I was, uh, much younger, I read a story about eating mammoth. There was some kind of convention, or other meeting, or perhaps it was just a large hotel needing to feed its guests; the locals were sent out to get some fresh meat, and they came back with large beefy looking meat which roasted up nicely. It was tasty, and unlike anything anyone had eaten before. When the locals took someone out to look at it, they found it was a slightly thawed but otherwise quite fresh mammoth. :') Might have been in Siberia, or then again, maybe in Alaska.
But man, what a find...LOL

Incredibly violent battle, technically won by the bison although he succumbed to his injuries.
Wow, a time warp or something.

Cliff Clavin:"Well ya see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest one sat the back that are killed first This natural s election is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers."
