The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

True.

Except that if there's pumpkin, I'd be eating it all...unless we have guests that like pumpkin pie, which is possible.

That's exactly why I'm making punkin pie for Thanksgiving... it's all for me! Muahahahaa. Other folkses can have apple and stuff.

"I like the smell of pumpkin pie, it's the consistency I don't like."

Then put whip cream up it, pour milk over it and then drop the whole thing in a blender with a shot of eggnog and two shots of rum.

It just would not be right to not have pumpkin. I would say apple and cherry too but I guess you are limited in the number of people you have to feed. Another thing that changes pumpkins consistency is to chill it. Makes a great breakfast (once the pecan has run out).

Ya know...that sounds tasty.

Is there something wrong with me?

At our house, we usually had twice as much punkin as anything else. Which meant...there MIGHT be some left over for breakfast, but only for the early birds.

Luckily I'm an early bird.

Mmmm...pie.

I love squashes in general. In general, Big'ol doesn't. I still have some frozen pulp from last year's pumpkin. Maybe I'll make punkin cookies. There's a good recipe tucked into a cookbook somewhere at home.

I don't know whether to be fascinated or horrified by that recipe.

Pecan pie is so far and away my favorite, that I'd rather have two pieces of that than a slice of a couple different ones. That's why I try not to make pecan pie more than a few times a year. Because I'll have a slice after dinner... and then another before bed... and then one for breakfast...

patriciaruth over at the "Care Packages for Afghanistan" thread wanted to know about how much each knife costs that you send to the troops. She and the folks are sending stuff to Baghram airbase. I had posted a link to the Hobbit Hole supports the troops blog, and she checked it out, but was wondering how much each knife costs.

The way to solve that is to follow Luis 'Lamour's rule. Never cut a pie into more than 4 pieces. :D
